Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A friend of mine "swears" he saw a new model 996 with gull wing doors on it in Phoenix...is this possible or did he ave to many beers on the golf course? Does anyone do an aftermarket gull wing mod? Thanks P.s. I have $20 bet that says he is wrong.

POST 2Original post

Depending on how the bet went, you may have lost 20 bucks. There is a 996 that has been modified, one of the modifications being a gull wing. It's not OEM, but one crazy fool did it. There was a pic circulating a while back, not photoshop.

http://www.hamann-motorsport.de/programme/e61.htm It's not a "Gull Wing" which really opens flat, vertically (Mercedes) it's more of a Lamborghini design. There are a few after-market companies that will put these scissor action door hinges in anything -- it's becoming common to see these door hinges on "tuner" cars like Hondas. Just Google for Lamborghini doors and you'll see some kits. These doors are heavier and a complete pain in the **** to get in and out of the car. But they look great.

POST 5Original post

That is one fine looking unique pcar. It appears to have soming on it's top. Does anybody know what that black thing is?

POST 6Original post

I think it looks cool on the 911. Not an improvement at all...but a different look thats not bad.

POST 7Original post

That particular car sits in the Hamann showroom here in Dubai ( www.hamann-me.com ) and is one of a kind from Hamann. The owner of the car is also the owner of Hamann Motrosport Middle East and the car was produced for him (based on Gen.1 GT3) on order and is called the San Diego Express. Produced for a car show in San Diego. The roof is carbon fiber with a Le Mans/GT1 type vent. Paint is cameleon blue/purple/silver Ciao, Johannes

POST 8Original post

Those are all examples of butterfly doors, which are different from gullwing. Unless I'm mistaken... butterfly, gullwing, and scissor doors are all different.

POST 9Original post

Johannes, That's a pretty freaky signature. And it's correct. How did you do that? Regards, JON

POST 10Original post

Jon, Visit www.danasoft.com Ciao, Johannes E.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, so I'm out $20....wow...what a great look. What do you figure that would cost aftermarket..and is it only Hamann?

POST 12Original post

I don't think so. Gullwing doors are hinged at the roof, which is impossible on a 996. Gullwing are Delorean type. Butterfly are shown above. Scissor doors are Lambo style.

POST 13Original post

[/B][/QUOTE] I saw this car in the international auto saloon in Geneva last march '03, this one was really really impressive!

POST 14Original post

carbon_00 you may be able to win the bet on a technicality...those really aren't true gullwing, ie ML 300 SL, Delorean, etc...
