Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, this is my first post but i need some advice for a friend who wants to upgrade his '99 996 coupe. it is the the 6-spd. he wants more power, but is not willing to go nuts, striclty bolt-ons: exhaust, headers, software, intake, etc. does anyone have any good recomendations, and know any good shops for install in the N. Jersey area? he was looking at Fabspeed cpmponents but he's not very knowledgable (neither am I, I drive a e46 m43) i thought he should gather some information first. thanks in advance, your input would be much appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Hi, and welcome to RENNLIST. Hope you enjoy your stay and become a member! I don't have any answers for you except to do a search on this forum, and check out what some of the sponsors may have to offer. Personally I have the Fabspeed (exhaust only) and enjoy the sound. You might check www.fabspeed.com out. Joe does a pretty good job explaining what his system is all about. Personally I just decided to make the sound better and not bother with the few hp gains of other intake systems....a very controversial subject.

POST 3Original post

As Don said, very controversial area. On the one hand, people say that the 3.4L 996 engine is pretty much peaked, and any attempts at a significant HP increase end up with significant neagtive effects on driveability and longevity. OTOH, there are those who swear by the Fabspeed products, EVO products, chips and whatnot. Easy enough to do a search. IMHO, there is plenty of power for day to day and occasional race track use in the stock P-car. Why fiddle with perfection?
