I'm no newbie to owning Porsches and 911s, but I am new to the 996. I am considering a 99 Carrera 4 Cabriolet with 30k miles, heavily optioned and dealer certified. I can tell you all the weaknesses in a 911SC, 3.2 Carrera, 930 and 993, having owned seven examples, but I haven't the faintest idea what to look at or evaluate on a 996 C4. Anybody got any pointers for me? I'm surprised there isn't a FAQ on this as there is on the 993 forum ... but then again, perhaps I missed it? TIA

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hi, and welcome to RENNLIST! .. I suggest to you go to www.alldata.com and take a look at the titles of the TSB's for the 996. That may give you some ideas. I don't think there was anything as serious as the infamous wiring harness recall on some of the 993s, but there are still plenty of TSBs for the 996 series.
