I've been on the border about octane and ethanol. Lake Speed Jr just did a video on this topic that I found very interesting. Lake drives a Boxster and has worked with LN Engineering and is discussed in detail on this page on their site: LN on Oil The short version of his video, which is worth watching notes that ethanol dilutes oil film strength, which leads to increase wear. Ethanol fuels The thing I've been looking at is ethanol fuel has higher octane and who can pass that up? I stumbled across a different video of this where they dyno'd 91 to 95 octane fuel to see what happened. The short version of this video is that for a given timing advance, there isn't any difference in octane according to the dyno. While a dyno run is not the real world, it's a decent way to see what the difference is. Octane Comparison

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

yep alcohol loves to absorb water... Back in the 80's when I was racing my little Turbo Alcohol Injected 2.0 liter engine, when draining the oil after a Race Weekend, the first thing to come out of Sump was about a Pint of water...the oil that came afterwards would still look like brand new.. I bought the Alcohol from the Local Industrial Chemical Company in 55 gal barrels...Once the seal was broken on the barrel it had to be used within a couple months or it would go bad ( get cloudy/white instead of clear )....
