Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I own a 2002 996 C2 with 8500 miles on it. It has a rear main seal leak. Although covered under warranty, it is still a pain to take it in. I had a 1991 C4 prior to this and it also leaked oil. My question to anyone out there is why is it that the Porsche engineers cannot stop an engine from leaking especially with the technology and years of experience on these engines?

POST 2Original post

I don't currently own a Porsche but oil leaks on P-cars seem to be fairly common and I must say one of the main reasons I have not yet purchased one (curently own a 2003 Z06). I agree with you that Porsche should have this all worked out by now but yet I still see too many posts from folks like you that have oil leaks. I hate oil leaks!!

POST 3Original post

The crankshaft is not concentric to the seal. There are 2 articles on renntech on the latest tools used to determine if you get another seal or a replacement motor. Jeff

POST 4Original post

Aircooled models such at the C4 you used to own are supposed to leak. As for the watercooled ones well....
