I had posted a topic about a month ago about shipping a H/T from ariz to NYC. The shipping was more than I paid for the top. Well the top finally came, I unpacked it, and it was all scratched, about 8" in from the front, not the buffable kind either. They said to send the top back, they could fix it and send it back to me or they could refund the $$. The total cost was $1300 (including shipping). It was the right color [Meridian Metallic] but...is it worth it? Or should I get the $$ and look for a top somewhere on the E coast, pick it up myself, and have it painted to match my car??

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

pick a guy locally to fix it and chauk it ip as a tuition bill.....
Who did you get it from in AZ? One of the dealers there has a number of hardtops listed on Ebay.
Too late. Its already back on the truck. Should I have them fix it tho, or just ask for my $$$ back and keep looking?
Tundra... Yup, that's who I got it from. They were all apologetic, and they are taking it back. But if they do repaint it and send it back, who's to say the repaint will be perfect (this was a 'new' top they were selling)? that it won't be scratched in transit again? Should I fuggeddaboutit and look for a local one for cheap?
I'd see if one of your local dealers will come close to your price with shipping. If not, when they repaint it are they footing the transport bill both directions? If so, I'd take the deal. If not, get your money back. They screwed up. Give them a chance to redeem themselves. Otherwise, move on. -Paul
I'd look for a local one with the correct interior color and have it painted. I was told that, if you order a top from the dealer (super expensive), it comes in a number of pieces and has to be assembled and painted. I don't know what they cost to paint, but I imagine it's less than the cost of shipping.
I would get it fixed out where you live and have them foot the bill. Just get estimates first and have them agree beforehand. I think that's more than fair. They then can either take it up with their insurance or the shipping company etc.
I got a local (NYC) hardtop with the right interior color for $400 and repainted it for another $400. Better than shipping and I've been told that they are easy to bend out of shape and you can't tell by a picture, only by trying it on.
Where did you get it?
