The amber color is part of the plastic, not a surface coating, so it cannot be removed. Jeff
It looks like it is an amber coating applied to the inside of the glass, I'm sure I've seen a post or something in the past with the method to remove it.
The fun part is getting the little amber fresnel lenses out of the clear ones.
Just to confuse you. The amber lights have a clear internal difuser and an a clear turn signal bulb. The clear lights have an amber difuser and a clear bulb. On the clear lights we remove the amber difuser and put in an a amber bulb. UK board With the amber lights the amber color is part of the plastic cover, but the internal difuser is clear, as you can see from the amber headlight I took apart when I had nothing better to do. Hi! can i take the lenses of my litronic lights off to clean them and how??
Lenses off no, but you could (if you are feeling really, really lucky) probably take all the bulbs out and blow compressed air on some surfaces. I suspect that lamp pictured was taken apart with a hammer.
You all can guess all day long. Might be time for a 996 hack day in the SF Bay Area. The picture has nothing to do with compressed air or a hammer. But, then again, a truck did back up into my Boxster.
Jeff, So basically you're saying that there aint much point in taking the plastic cover off, as you can't remove the amber coating anyway !!!!
Correct. The plastic itself is a amber color. There is no coating to remove. You can send me your headlights and I will take them apart to see if they are any different than the one I took apart
You can, however, remove the amber fresnel lens inside the "clear" 2000-01 lights and switch to silver-coated amber bulbs, that is what that earlier thread was about. It forms three sides of a cube around the clear turn signal bulb, and can be broken out through the bulb hole.
Thanks for the advice. I've bought a pair of clear headlight corners and I'm going to try applying a loght dusting of some black tinting spray to the amber part of the headlight unit, to see if that does the trick. If not it looks like a new set of clear headlights is the only expensive option. I'll let you know how thing turn out. Cheers, Stephen
