Back in November, after spending a great deal of time picking out the options, I ordered a new C4S. I was particularly intent on getting the interior precisely the way I wanted and went to the trouble of ordering "Leather to Sample". I haven't been very impressed with the brown/beige leathers offered by Porsche, so I specified something a bit different...it is actually an older leather color from the 928 called Mahogany. The seats, doors panels, rear console and A,B&C pillars were specified in Mahogany with black deviated stitching. The dash, headliner, steering wheel and carpet were ordered in black. The most unique touch (IMHO) was ordering the instrument cover in Magogany. Thought it would look cool against the black dash. Well, guess what? The car just arrived, with a Mahogany steering wheel (wrong) and a black instrument cover (wrong)! Just a couple of weeks ago I predicted to my salesman (BTW, a great guy) that Porsche would undoubtedly screw something up. And they did. The question is: what to do? Does anyone have any idea as to the difficulty of removing and recovering the instrument cover? I think the ideal scenario would be for Porsche to send a new instrument cover in Mahognay (assuming they have retained some extra leather) and supply a steering wheel in black. I have the feeling that the dealer will say this can't be done. I always have the option of refusing the car, but this doesn't get anyone concerned to a particularly productive place. I'd love to hear anyone's comments on this. I t would seem to me that your problem can be corrected by Porsche sending you the correct instrument cover and steering wheel. I would take it up with the dealer and if the dealer balks, you can either call the PCNA rep for your location or have the dealer call. Personally, I would make the call myself and to light the fire. If you are willing to take the car as is, ask for a discount since they made the mistake and it may not be easy to sell a car quickly which has been customized to your specs. Your car sounds great and unique and I look forward to seeing the pictures.
Thanks, Wilam. Your approach sounds appropriate. I'll start the process tomorrow and post the progress. I'll post a few preliminary photos to illuminate my problem (and pleasure) as soon as I figure out how.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, I hope you can get an appropriate resolution. I love the sound of your color choices and would love to see some pics if possible...
i agree with william. i hope that you get what you want, as you have obviously taken the time to specify a unique car. it seems as if this problem can be solved.
I might add that if your dealer won't take care of you now, do you really want to do business with them? They should be jumping over backwards to make it right as I imagine that your car will be one of the more expensive c4s' they have configured, judging by your option list.
LanceK: Pics to be posted as soon as I figure out how. Thanks. dpblessing: I like your ideas about the Techart wheel. I'm off to the dealer today to start negotiations. I'll let everyone know how I do. wilam: They've been a very good dealer so far, but I guess we'll find out what they're made of now. Actually, while I think I configured a fairly expensive C4S, they showed me one that just arrived which had almost every option in the book (including X51) which stickered at $118K. Wow!
I wouldn't accept any changes what so ever neither any discounts, i would insist on what i have chosen and the lot of money you paid is not little, so go for it and fix it and exactly like you dream of. you waited long, wait little more. cheers and congratsh !
I also think you should get the exact options you wanted, and the time you had to wait for that car, it must be real frustrating. I would not get any discounts either, and the dealer not only has to correct all of these with a 'rush', i would expect them to do a little extra for the agonising wait. Color combo sounds great,Really, want to see those final pictures though.
Opie, I answered on you post on another forum, but I know if it were me and you kept the car after accepting some compensation, every time you got into the car and looked at the wheel and dashboard, it would bring back very negative memories. You paid handsomely for those options, especially match to color on the leather. That's just my opinion! Good luck!
Opie -- how about some pictures . . . you're killin' me.
