I just bought a new 2002 996 and i just finished breaking it in. Yesterday on the way home from the Strip Club a BMW M3 pulled up next to me we dropped gears and the 2 cars were neck in neck, than we got the lights, i revved it up to 4000 rpm because i was told that you have to rev high so you dont get the rear hop and i thought the tires were spinning but realy the clutch was slipping right through first and second gear i was told that this happend because when you over rev the launch you get slip with the factory porsche clutches. Can anyone confirm this or does anyone know if this is true? Outcome i lost due to take off and i need to learn how to launch this vehicle any advice? Thank you ASSOS

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Holy Crap... how embarassing. I mean that you admitted to returning home from a strip club... haha is that a normal routine for you? Anyway, launches over 2500 are just nuts. This car is a terrible stop light racer. On the occasion I want a fast launch, I launch at about 2000k and when it's hooked up, punch it. It's not worth the chance that I'll burn through my clutch like you did. I bet that M3 has a story to tell. Check the bimmer boards and see if someone posts about a clutch burning 996. hehe

Burning the clutch can place a glaze on it, making slippage even more likely and can result in an early replacement. At least it was only up to 2nd. Someone posted here that they slipped it all the way to 4th. Now that ended up in a replacement. Butt heavy with fat rear tires, the 911 is not a dragster. Here's a link to a previous thread on launching. Next thing to do is join PCA and take your car to a track or autocross. It's a blast leaving those M3's behind on the track .
I suggest we observe a moment of silence for a dearly departed clutch.......
