Talked with the service manager last night and now he believes my problem is NOT a MAF sensor but the fuel system delivery valve. Seems several owners of 03 TT's and C4S' have reported a problem with "surges". It appears the snap connectors are coming loose under certain conditions (gets warm and start to expand causing the clip to let the line drop out of the connector and letting air / fuel vapor get sucked into the line). This is what is causing the surges in the 3-3.5k rpms range. Then the line / connector "reconnects" and causes the problem to disappear for a short time. A new TT owner was in there last night getting his assembly replaced. Mine is now on order. Symptoms can be unusual starting problems (long crank) or temporary surges in power. Have to wait a week for parts before mine can be replaced and totally checked out but this is what the guys at the dealership believe to be the problem. Hope this helps.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
