Hi Crew Refurbishing my console. I have removed the soft-touch coating from all of the various parts except for the gear selector trim plate. Don't want to hit this piece with oven cleaner or attempt to sand it for fear of damaging the silver metal gear indicator plate. There is nothing on the underside that would indicate the metal trim piece is screwed or clipped in place, so I'm thinking it is pressed on. I tried some gentle prying but it's not budging. Don't want to damage it. Anyone have experience with this? I would like to also strip and paint the plastic part vs leaving it with the old finish on it. Thanks

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have no experience prying the two pieces apart, but if you don't want the hassle of stripping the plastic part finish you may want to try the ColorBond LVP product. I have had good results with it.
Thank you. Thoughts on using this for the entire console then?

There are a lot of posts about re-spraying the center console. A few are below. If someone would do it with Krylon paint, I would definitely do it with the ColorBond paint.
