Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i just purchased this 01 996 C4 beauty from a dealer here in Lubbock, TX. I do have a question or two. The car is titled and VINed as a carrera 4 however the car is 2wd. Could a conversion been done? The carfax shows the car is originally from the Mississsippi area and though I would see if anyone on the forum recognizes it so I might get some info on its history. This is my first 911 and I am still learning the ins and outs of this car. So far I love it and look forward to many years of happy ownership and constant tinckering.. anyway here are a couple of quick pics from my phone

POST 2Original post

Take a look at the option code sticker under the hood (front) and then put the values into one of the option code decoders. This will tell you what the car had from the factory.

POST 4Original post

Nice-looking car... is that wing a TechArt? How many miles are on it? Enjoy the car!

POST 5Original post

If the car is/was a C4, you can tell by the front differential bulge that intrudes into the front trunk storage space. As suggested above, take a photo of the trunk space an post it up for us to see. Also, you can just quickly look under the car and see if there are drive axles and/or a front differential on the car.

POST 7Original post

Welcome to the C4/C2 forum. Snap a phone pic of the sticker (as mentioned) under your frunk and post it on Rennlist. You'll have the answer in no time.

POST 8Original post

Congrats! As noted above, look in the trunk for signs of AWD. A C4 will have the bulge in the trunk for the front differential. The spare tire will be collapsible underneath the floor of the trunk. It will also have silver brake calipers while the C2 will have black calipers. I've seen some registrations listed as "Porsche Carrera 2/4", so this could be your issue also.

POST 9Original post

To answer your question, yes, a conversion could have been done. Several C4 owners, yours truly included, have done so.

POST 10Original post

Congratulations and welcome to rennlist Post a few more details about the car then you get a chance.

Sharp looking car. I like that color and that wing. Very cool.
