Looks like someone keyed my roommates C4S yesterday (while I was driving it no less) on the left rear quarter panel and even gouged the taillamp. 3 body shops want to paint the entire left rear and blend into the door. Is there any less painful way to get this repaired or is the respray the only way to go?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I guess it depends on the color/depth/length of the scratch. In any case you should take a picture so you can prove to a potential buyer that the respray was for a scratch and not an accident repair.
you should definitely do what Don suggests so you don't have any loss when you try to sell it if and when they do a paint thickness test or later down the line. In any event if they ask you must by law disclose if it has been in an accident or had work other than service done to it.
Who else can give the best ideas other than Don? BTW seemz everyone in this small world likes the Pcar they either buy it or they key it. One ---hole keyed my C4S badly on the right side door last month, the depth of the scratch was 500 microns, the whole door has to be sprayed but luckily i have my Pcar in silver so i will try my best to keep it for a while just in case another --- -- - ----- is thinking to complete the letter X Will the scratch show a rust sign after some time?
@Fadz: AFAIK the doors are made from aluminium, so they shouldn't rust. Only the main body is made from steel, both hoods and the doors are from aluminium.
ETS , why don't you bring the car to me so I can look at it with my guys. I'll help you out. Theo

Dude that sucks... Let me guess, was it at the Aventura Mall by any chance? Thats keying central in southern florida, my car (brand new at the time C4S also)was keyed 3X there last year. Twice on the leftrear quarter panel and once on the passenger door. Unfortunately the only way to only way to be sure the paint matches is to respray the entire panel... Please god just let me catch them in the act one day....
CjN - Not sure of where it happened. Ive been using it most of the time but whenever I park it,Im always sure to put it in a place that I can keep an eye on it. But we have a good feeling that it happend in the parking garage of our building. People are so stupid. What goes around comes around
