Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Spotted an interesting Autoblog article on a Porsche storage warehouse of old prototypes and such in Stuttgart. One highlight was this four-door concept that looks like a 996 to me... From the Autoblog Article... If there were one of these on E-Bay, I'd consider it...

POST 2Original post

It's interesting that it looks so much like a 996, even ten years early. It's also interesting how much of the concept made it into the Panamera.

This is boggling to think that shape was in existence in 1988. I would've thought it was a typo and should've read 19 9 8. I don't know why Porsche would've waited over 10 years to introduce a similiar shape. It's a drastic departure from 964 and 993's.

My thoughts exactly. I wonder what the front of that car looks like? Edit: Thank, Google! http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/por...roduction.html

POST 6Original post

Wow. I don't think I could get that into my driveway without high-centering it. Interesting that it looks like a 996, but has oval headlights.

POST 7Original post

Wow... pretty amazing how close it is to the 996, 10 years early! ,

POST 8Original post

You can really see where the 993 fenders and mkI 996 headlights came from in the front of that car.

POST 9Original post

It looks like a really tight fit for a V8 in the front end of that car. There does not seem to be enough height or length there. Maybe they were thinking of developing a flat eight, either for the front or back?? I've read several times that Porsche hangs on to their ideas and developments, and here is another example. I agree with others that this is much better looking than the Panamera.

Another example: The door handles on that 989 finally ended up on the 997.

POST 12Original post

Very 968ish. Looks like a 968 front end. 2003 Carrera 4S Speed Yellow / 1955 356 Continental 1500 Rust Red

POST 13Original post

For 1988 this car looks amazing. Even today, it would look very modern.

I agree... '88 seems to early - they wouldn't have had things like those wheels, the curved mirrors and the 4-spoke steering wheel until much later. I can't believe they would have fabricated those things just for a prototype. I would have assumed they would have raided the current parts bins for them.

POST 15Original post

The more I ponder it, I think Van is right. Can anyone confirm? I find it nearly impossible to believe this is a 1988 prototype. Edit: Well, per Wiki, 1988 is correct after all. Amazing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_989

POST 16Original post

Yeah, I did several web searches too... and they all seem to confirm that it was that early! Crazy, man. Crazy.

Well then I wonder if they had the 991 designed back in 2003 and held out too.Lol

POST 18Original post

This is a really cool concept car. Crazy to see the styling cues for the following 10+ years of the 911.

POST 20Original post

From the front, the aft half looks like an Olds Aurora. Don't hate! TC

POST 22Original post

I love Porsches as much as all of you guys, but this thing is ... fugly.

POST 23Original post

The more I look at it the more I wish I had one!
