Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What are people's experiences with extended warranties for 996s older than 10 years? My budget for a vehicle puts me in the 2002 MY. I've had experience with Costco's warranty but they say that they only cover vehicles up to 10 years old. Same with EasyCare that has been mentioned here. I have found no detailed info on Fidelity presumably because they do not sell direct. The second part of the question is that assuming it is not an exclusionary policy, has anyone had experience with claiming for IMS/RMS failure, which would presumably imply a new engine given the consequences of the failure?

LaSalle Warranty Company is the only company that we work with. They recently picked up someone's entire tab here with no questions asked for a 13K repair. We offer their warranties to our customers that purchase our turnkey packages and IMS packages, and they extend discounts if we've done the work on an engine proactively. These guys have proven themselves, the rest I pretty much hate and won't deal with, at all.

Thanks Jake. Waiting for a call back from LaSalle. Incidentally, I learned that Costco's provider is no longer offering new coverage for premium European brands (although they may get added back soon.)

Update on LaSalle's coverage: the vehicle cannot be older than a 2004. They break their coverage into <40k miles miles and 40k-80k miles. So for coverage one would want to find a 2004 996 with under 80k miles.

I bought my 04 C4S from a guy who had bought it earlier from CarMax, and he bought the extended warranty they offered. The car did indeed have IMS engine failure, and the warranty had an engine replacement done at a Porsche dealer in northern Virginia
