Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thanks for posting. This is all very good news. Looks like AW was full of it when they publish the price would be around $145K US. Karl
[quote]Originally posted by Karl S: Looks like AW was full of it when they publish the price would be around $145K US.

My guess would be that this was a trial balloon released by Porsche to see how the price would fly. Guess it bombed. Porsche makes a lot of money on these cars even at these lower prices and we all know from past experience that they are very sensitive to having model introduction failures and will always price low initially. S.
I don't think we are getting a great deal, just a lot more realistic than $145K. The euro price is under 90K without VAT. With the current exchange rate, that says PCNA is adding over $11K of something to the sticker and my guess is it's mostly profit. Karl
Karl- I partly agree about the PCNA surcharge, but remember than the warranty in the US is 4yrs and only 2yrs in ROW. BTW, I hear that the retail price for the GT1 based motors is over $40k, so a 3rd year engine replacement is worth alot to a US warranty holder...
I WANT ONE.... Anybody wanna adopt me and buy me one?? no? OK... Maybe after I graduate college and the price of those things has come down some....maybe then....I'll get one....
Man, this is nice stuff ~106 HP per liter with 8200 RPM available + Real dry sump=GREAT ENGINE!!!!!! Pressure lubricated gearbox, 6 piston 350 mm brakes, low tight suspension, nice Aero package. Should be a real blast to drive. Nice to see Porsche finally back in business here in the USA.
Great post, to bad I didn't see this till tonight! Just spoke w/ local dealer this afternoon(I'm #3 on THE list) about what he thinks I can get for my '02 C2 O. Red/ w/ Factory Aero Kit. Any one interested? Hope I get a crack @ one! Buck
Sounds like a nice car and the price seems fair. I'll still wait a little while until the "newness" of the GT3 wares off, or get the new 997 as my next Porsche. The only thing that makes me mad, this new GT3 is no less different from a '03 996 than the old GT3 was from the '99-01 996. So why can PAG all of a sudden market this new GT3 in the US while they denied us the old GT3.
You wrote... The only thing that makes me mad, this new GT3 is no less different from a '03 996 than the old GT3 was from the '99-01 996. What are you talking about. The 2003 GT3 is COMPLETELY different from a 2003 996, just as a 1999 GT3 was COMPLETELY different from a 1999 996. Don't understand your point.
Dj996's point is that both GT3's are very different from their contemporary 996 C2 cousins, so why was the earlier car not US legal.
Thank you Grant. You understood my point completely, if PAG can offer the car now then they could have easily done it back in '99. At the time the excuse was the car could not be federaliized- I guess that is not true. And the car sits too low for bumper regulations ( the same BS reason we can't get a ROW suspension as an option)- I guess the GT2 disproves that point. But what really ticks me off is how PAG fought against importation of GT3s into the US. I guess they wanted to protect their market exclusivity on the car.
I heard the real reason the GT3 was not imported to the USA was that Porsche at the time had limited capacity to build GT3 engines, so the US and some other markets were denied GT3's. I also heard the GT3 was originally discontinued for the same reason, since the Turbo and GT3 share the same basic engine and Porsche wanted to build as many high profit Turbo's as possible, so the GT3 was nixed. PCNA saw the federalized GT3 market as too much competition for the new 996 market since a used one could be brought into the USA for much less than a new US spec 996 with the Cup aerokit sold for. Anyone else heard these rumors?
"Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG" What do all the abbreviations mean?
Dr.=Doctor Ing.=Engineering h.c.= Honoris Causa or honorary degree F= Ferdinand AG=Aktiengesellschaft which is a joint stock company in Germany. Was "KG" for Kommanditgesellschaft or limited partnership prior to 1972 when Porsche restructured the company to stop family infighting over control.
Has anybody in the UK had a GBP price confirmed on the GT3 ?
MJS, price info here in the PCGB press release: www2.uk.porsche.com/isapi/english/gbr/news/pressreleases/report.asp?kapitel=news&id=36
Cupcar, I just read the same, in my Xmas present book..'02 edition of "Porsche 911 Story" Porsche decision time frame in '98 allowed for the start & launch of the "new" '02/996 (320 HP/ varicam plus/ etc, and the whole Cayenne start-up (from factory itself to new "V-8"!). I quote "The two projects also required all the engineering forces the company could muster", Hence not enough GT-3 engines for the US of A...till now! Here's hoping I get to pull one off! Merry Christmas Buck
