POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, I'm a 41 year old guy, looking to buy a 2000 C2 with 31k mi for about $49k. I found a speed yellow, with yellow stitching on the black sport seats, yellow seat backs on those seats, white gauges, upgrade sport wheels... this is the first 996 that has captured my real interest due to the exotic, non-bland exterior in a price I can sort of afford, at least in the pics I've seen of it. It's being sold by a Lexus dealer (ughh)in Texas (I think), very far from my home in Maryland. I excitedly showed my wife the pics, and she said, "yellow? are you sure? how could you ever resell it? wouldn't 95% of people NOT want yellow? what if you get sick of the color?" Any thoughts on this color? It calls to me, but I might just be acting like a 5 year old today. My 993 triple black cab owning friend who is getting a 996 99-2000 triple blk cab thinks yellow is "cartoonish" and that it's better to go with silver or black on that car. I find silver a bit bland on the 2000 996 vs silver on a 97 C4S - which is HOT! Thoughts? PS- Have a Merry Christmas, for all of you that celebrate and thanks to you all for ALL your help. You may have helped me to avoid buying a 993 which wouldn't have been as fast, comfortable, updated, cool in the summer, warm in the winter, etc! sr

POST 3Original post

Steve, My friend has a 360 Modena in yellow and I think even that car is a bit much. However, it is a matter of taste. I would listen to your wife. Also the price seems a little high for a C2 with 31K. I have seen cars with much less miles for lower prices. I was able to get a 99C4 with 18K in september for 52k off a Buick dealer. Prices are falling. Alan Bernstein Annapolis,Md.

POST 4Original post

I personally like yellow and think that the 996 looks great in that color. Go for what you like! You're the one who has to live with it. Lease the car if you're not sure.

POST 5Original post

I love speed yellow also. Can you post the pics of the car. I clicked on the link but got an error. Where in Texas is the car. If it is in Austin I would be glad to go look at it for you.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Kerry- Try this link: http://community.webshots.com/user/stephenrobinson I'm semi-computer illiterate! Let me know if this works. For some reason I can't get the pics of my 88 off one of the links, and the other link doesn't work. The car is in Clear Lake, Tx. Is that near you at all? I sure wish someone could look at it for me. Peace to all, and to all a good night. Steve Porscheless at the moment.

POST 7Original post

Wow that looks awesome!!! I wish I could trade for mine Clear lake is about a 3.5hr drive from Austin where I live. My wife's parents actually live there. Too bad it wasn't during Thanksgiving as I was down there. I doubt we will go down over the holiday break so I won't be able to go check it out. Good luck, it looks like a good car but without actually seeing it and driving it you never know.

POST 8Original post

Well, I am not a fan of yellow cars but that doesnt look bad at all. Enfact, I think with Yellow 996. You might want to spend a few dollars for a side skirt. Now that would make it very nice. Good luck

POST 9Original post

Don't ask my opinion!

POST 10Original post

Stever, i faced exactly the same problem when ordering my new C4cab.My wife thought the colour was not something that suited my age( i am 43), and everybody advised against yellow for being difficult to sell.I allready have difficulties selling a car since i can buy them tax free, but need to sell them either outside this country, or to a foreigner living here in Turkey. You can imagine that it causes more difficulties.I ended up buying on the safe side and choosing black metallic, but i regret that decission regularly. Go for what you really like!!!!!!! Best of luck

POST 11Original post

Waz, In support of your wife. My opinion yellow is meant for Turbo's, GT's and the like.. the wild bunch that is.. Normal 996 is too sleek and elegant for a yellow color.. My opinion. Waz

POST 12Original post

First of all Stever, you are a 41 year young guy. I cannot comment on the price, the condition of the Pcar, and the resell value, but I would like to comment on the color. I like the car alot in the pictures, its really cool. Just imagine there is another (any color) 996 next to it. Which will attracts you more, No doubt the yellow one. If you have a favorite color, that's another case but if you like the yellow and you like attracting ppl. then go for the yellow. It's the color of the sun. Good Luck & Happy Holidays

POST 13Original post

In yellow it's awesome!. In my opinion, After that i would add the GT3 aero kit! this pic is well know, In fact shows the great lines and a temperament's sport car.

POST 14Original post

...See how beautiful it is in GT2 and aero kit! Yellow is meant to be an 'offensive' and 'challenging'.. The C2-996 in its bare looks does not really give that temperament.. Waz

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's over. The wife has vetoed the yellow 996 big time. She thought about it last night, the pics floating in around that sensible, beautiful head of hers, and can not deal with me having that car! She said "it's too flashy, Steve. Your friends will all say, there goes Steve in his yellow Porsche". Yeeesh. I say to that, so what? But we fought about it more than I wanted to, and I lost. I don't want to **** her off anymore than I have. Now I'm back to really swaying more towards a 2000 C4 than the 97 C4S anyway, thanks to the great help I've gotten on this board and from your emails. What an awesome community. It's been suggested, stay with silver, blue or black, and to think of the next guy buying it from me one day when I buy it! Now there's the lease or buy question. If I leased, I could get out of it in a couple of years to get a 996 C4S used. Hmmmmmm - now my gears are REALLY spinning. What the heck to do. Steve "It's all good"

POST 16Original post

Hey Stever...it sounds like the Pcar you decided on is sort of a temporary vehicle...and IMHO that means lease. Maybe not the best investment, but cars are never anyway. If you lease you get the benefit of "working" out your frustrations on this car and maybe by the time the lease is up you can flood your wife with pics of SY Pcars. The SY with the NBL interior rather than black does mute the contrast a bit and may make it more palatable

POST 17Original post

Holly Cow! I hope i've not started a divorce! Waz

POST 18Original post

Go with your initial feelings, looking at the photos the car looks awesome. Do not under estimate the interior either. Coloured seat backs, seat belts, white dials, the stitching. You may wait some time to find this interior on the market again. The photo above with the GT kit would be a good after purchase. Good luck.
