First thing to point out is I do have a tiptronic transmission. There are 2 odd things, coming from an LS430 I may just be paranoid. 1. On idle in D the rev needle bounces slightly, as in it vibrates if you look close enough, almost hunting like, maybe + - 50/150 rpm? It's certainly visibile that it is moving up and down. 2. In gear driving along, lets say around 30 MPH at around 2000/2500 revs, if you very gently accelerate I feel some sort of surge/jerky/hesitation type thing going on with the engine. You've gotta be looking out for it pretty damn close to notice this. It feels like the engine and not the transmission. I've cleaned the MAF and TB and it didn't make an ounce of difference. Am I being super paranoid here?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

year and model pls
Sorry, 2004 996 3.6 everything standard.
I have an '04 with a manual and the engine seems much happier above 3000 rpm. In fact, to get it under 3000 I have to be going at a speed that feels way too low for the current gear, like 50 in 6th or something. When you said 30 mpg with 2000-2500 rpm that really jumped at me - what gear are you in going that speed with those revs?
