Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I have a leak at the front of my transmission. Is this common? Any ideas? Thanks!!! Brian

POST 2Original post

"Front" as the part pointing towards the front of the car? Not common. Or "front" as in trans engine joint? More common - could be RMS (Rear Main Seal) or IMS bearing seals or input shaft seals or....

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Front of transmission towards the front of car. 99 996 cab with 130k Pic is worth a 1,000 words image-1463113516.jpg Thanks again Brian

POST 4Original post

Looks like the trans mount needs changing. Not sure of reason for leak. Does it smell like trans oil? Sort of sulphur/garlic smell.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It really doesn't smell like anything. It does have an oily texture

POST 6Original post

See if you can find where it's leaking from. I know there is a vent on top of the transmission, maybe it's coming from there. Aren't there also coolant lines running down either side of the trans? Coolant would be oily with little smell whereas gear oil is pretty stinky and thick.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looked at it closely today. Couldn't find the leak.

POST 9Original post

Also try wiping down the wet area, then look again later. It may help you determine where the leak is originating.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes I did that. Waiting for leak to re-appear
