Hi all, feel a bit dim in asking but does anyone know what this **** does on my 99 996 C2? It's to the left of the lights switch and turning the inner **** (with the red marker) one way sends the light below amber, the other way green while little red lights flash on the dash (below the battery and oil gauges) and an alarm sounds. Not the car alarm, but a strange alarm... I know there's a simple explanation but this has me scratching my head... Any ideas?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hyperspace?
Cloaking device? No f'ing clue what that is.
That is certainly not stock or a Porsche option.
my WAG is your car has a radar detector installed....that ON-OFF *** may be for a K40 P.S. Check your front bumper (bar in slots) or rear license plate frame http://www.europeancarweb.com/tech/0...adar_detector/
I guess aftermarket radar detector.
I have the same ****. It's for a radar detector. I don't have the details, but it does seem to beep when I drive through a speed trap!!
Well I never. There IS a black box/slot in the front bumper with an LED strip so I'm sure you're right guys - looks to be the K40. Maybe I shouldn't put my front license plate over it then... Many thanks.
does the "strange alarm" sound like high pitched chirps/shrills?
Yes! I've just read the manual for the K40 on K40.com and I think it's the K40-1000 system. Good work, thanks kromdom and thedugger1, this forum rocks!
nice unexpected "bonus", huh? FWIW, I bought a car that had a K40 installed...discovered it months AFTER purchase P.S. You should also have 2 red lights near the top of the gauges
Actually below the gauges but yes, good bonus! Stealth mode. Brilliant.
Always nice to find something unexpected with your new purchase.
That activates the flux capacitor. If the light is green you are good for time travel. Red and alarms means that you need to feed the cuisinart intake port with more banana peels.
Radar detector. Have the same, but located in the rt side footwell.
We aren't allowed to have radar detectors Down Under. In fact, our Highway Patrol have Radar Detector Detectors... :-(
Good find BTW. I found one in mine in the drivers foot well right wall. My actual detector part was rotted to hell so I removed the whole kit and caboodle and bought myself a Cobra. Seems to work just fine.
Another thing to check is the laser diffuser unit on the front. If you take a picture of the unit and contact the K40 support line they can check to see if the unit is obsolete with regard to the ever-advancing war of technology. In my case there are several newer upgrade units that will interface with the K40 base unit.
