Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How come no one ever talks about Targas? Anybody own/drive one? What's the verdict- worth considering or not?

POST 2Original post

I have a 78 Targa which I dearly love. I bought a new 01 AWD C4 coupe because I feel the Cab is butt ugly with the top up, where it would stay most of the time in my climate, and no real beauty with the top down. I would buy a new C4S in a heartbeat if it came with a T-Top. My understanding is that the 993 Targa version was a nightmare of leaks and squeaks. I rather doubt if the new one is any better. Anyone out there willing to help me fund a 996 T-top retrofit developement?

POST 3Original post

I understand my neigbours sister is swapping her 02 cab hardtop to a 02 targa. I already think its looks superb.

POST 4Original post

996 Targas seem not much more popular than 993 Targas. Many dealers have them sitting on the showroom floor for a long time. Concept is cool. But it is a very top heavy coupe that outweighs reg coupe by 200 lbs ( extra weight all up top) for an $8K premium. At that point, a cab is more rational value if you really want open top , best resale , for similar weight penalty.

POST 5Original post

Are targas viewed as as a hardtop for DEs?? Would you require a rollbar? Does the hard Cab top work at DEs, or do they require a roll bar, also?

POST 6Original post

I know someone who had a 993 targa and complained of rattles and squeaks.

POST 7Original post

Another problem is, when the car is dirty , retracting the dirty glass top under the dirty rear glass renders the inside rear view mirror useless.

POST 9Original post

J*O: Look at the sleek and blended lines of the 996 coupe, from any angle, it literally says 911... Now look at your Cab with the canvas top up, remind you of a 911? More like an SC430 with it's top up, not at all pleasing to the eye, lines of the car are just not quite right.... My 01 C4 coupe is at: http://www.hobbystage.net/porsche/whatever

POST 10Original post

bad link This is purely subjuctive, however I think my cab with the hardtop on says "911" more the 996 coupe and with the top down well...(didn't you wish you could put your top down yesterday?)...

POST 11Original post

No, I still have my 78 Targa for THOSE (few) days... Link worked yesterday... I agree your cab looks much, MUCH better with the hardtop on.

POST 12Original post

I have an '02 Targa and love it. No rattles and squeaks, in fact no buffeting at all with the top back even at high speeds. No problems of any kind except that the top doesn't retract with one touch (even though the sunshade does)and lest I forget, the sound issues with the subwoofer that everyone else has as well as the cell phone interference. I feel similarly about the cab. The Targa is the perfect 911.

POST 13Original post

JMS, I kinda agree. The perrrfeccct compromise. The nicer of the 2002 range. The 911 Targa Hatchback.
