Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got my 996 up to 165 MPH the other night but after about 130 MPH, it took forever. With all these mods that can be done, are there any substantial ones where one can say "My car never felt like that before"? Exhaust makes it sound nice with the expense of some low-end torque and chips supposedly give a "better all around response"(as I've heard). I realize that my 996 will never feel like the Turbo but would like to toy with it for fun as it is my everyday driver. I have only put in the fabspeed airbox and filter.

Hope you were on the track! There have been some interesting threads on this board over the last few months re: tuning which might include some enhancements you'd be interested in. You can try to search the archives if you don't get a good response to the post.

"I got my 996 up to 165 MPH the other night but after about 130 MPH, it took forever." That's interesting. I remember being shocked how fast my 993 went from 130 to 170 (the one time I did it). The move from 130 to 170 didn't seem much diff than say 100 to 130. Don't think I've ever had my 996 even past 150 mph, but have never noticed it slowing the accent past a certain level. Wonder if everything is ok with your car.

POST 4Original post

What do you mean it took "forever"? I had mine up to 160 once and I don't remember it taking forever. It might not have been instant mind you...

POST 5Original post

My 964 goes from 120-150 in hardly any time at all. That's with the almost vertical bug-eyes for headlights. Perhaps you should drive another car for comparison. I don't know if I can make 170mph...

POST 6Original post

Sil, Mabye the car is too smooth and you didnt get that rush. I would bet that if you actually time how long it took then it would have been pretty fast. BTW, where the heck are you driving it that fast. I havent gotten it past 145 yet.

POST 7Original post

Max for me twice at 155 mph(track). Never went that fast as you but going from 100 to 155 mph was quite quick to me. Darn where did you drive? Regards. Mike

POST 8Original post

SICAONE, No matter what you do, you won't be able to stop comparing it to your Turbo and the high end will *feel* slow. The money you pay to get extra 30hp in 996 will buy you three times as much in Turbo.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice guys. VS, you seem to be correct. This is probably me comparing the two which is like apples and oranges.
