Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I bought a 2004 C2 in May of this year and have been hanging around "unannounced" every since. I have gained much knowledge from those here and thought it would be a good idea to join up. As soon as I can figure out how to get a pic of my car up I will. Until then I look forward to continuing to educate myself on my new-to-me 911 through all of the knowledgable folks here! Thank you!

POST 2Original post

Glad you could join the party, congrats on the C2.

POST 5Original post

Congrats, welcome, and get to the track as soon as possible

POST 6Original post

POST 8Original post

Some might seem rude mentioning post pictures or else OR others will say it custom to do so. Others might just say yah right where's the pictures. Then the ones that would say post pics or get banned.............where's the pictures? is your arm broke?

POST 9Original post

Welcome, enjoy the miles and smiles and oh yeah, no pix...it is a hologram! Pix please!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, I think I have done this right. 3 pics of my new ride from the place I bought it. At the time it had 56,0000 miles and now has 65,000. It is all original with no mods and will probably stay that way. Black on black with original clutch, IMS, and RMS. My indy tells me not to worry about the dreaded IMS issue and just enjoy it which I most certainly have done. Just got back from a very rapid trip to Philly prior to the recent weather unpleasantness. I don't know how I managed to avoid a speeding ticket but boy was the trip fun!! Hopefully as I get more adept at working the controls on the forum I can update the pictures. Until then "here 'tis"!!

POST 13Original post

That is a pretty looking car !! You have to look out for those speeding tickets they can be just a tad costly now days. I would consider some Euro Clear Side Markers if you haven't done so already. Is this your first Porsche ?

POST 14Original post

Congrats! Looks great in black. I would recommend getting a second opinion on the ims upgrade. I was also told not to worry about it and it ended up costing me a new (ungodly expensive) engine. Just a suggestion...it will give you great peace of mind. Enjoy the new ride!

POST 15Original post

Welcome to Rennlist. Nice looking C2, thanks for some pics.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to all for all the kind words. I was well acquainted with the IMS issue when I bought the car. It's not like I haven't been through this type of thing before. I am a life-time motorcyclist and through the years it seemed every model had some type of issue that was sure to grenade the motor. I'm still riding the 1977 Superglide I bought new in 1976. No grenade yet. Then when I purchased a 2001 VW New Beetle TDI all the fun was ruined by the hand-wringers that said that the engine was crap and the timing belt would snap and take out the whole top end just like the IMS issue with the Porsches. 300,000 miles later all is well. Plus everything breaks down. Of course it's a matter of how much you wanna spend to fix it. Even if the IMS craps out on this car I would still be money ahead over a new one. So, I'll take the chance, have some fun, and have it towed if it goes and get it fixed. In the meantime I have 4 motorcycles and that humble VW to haul my can around until it gets repaired!!

POST 18Original post

Great car! I like your attitude: "If it breaks, fix it." For me, I like the IMS replacement option, as I am risk-averse. But your viewpoint is equally valid. As long as we are informed and make our choices and live with them, is all that matters. There simply is no "right" answer for these things... I have to laugh with sympathy at your VW TDI tale... I was convinced that the transaxle in my Subaru WRX was destined for a certain, early death based on the reading forums. But that was 11 years ago and things are still fine!

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, the TDI fiasco is probably why I don't pay much attention to the "IMS issue". But I'm not totally adverse to "fixing" what isn't broken. I think both of those "problems" are primarily due to maintenance issues. When the clutch has to be done I'll probably take care of some other things while they are in there. But like I said, until then I'm just gonna have some fun with the Porsche!! And as you have pointed out, just about every vehicle ever produced has had either some suspected problems or actual ones. I'm just not going to worry about it in the meantime.
