I am looking to add a Cold Air Intake system to my 996. I've done some research here at RL, and most seem to prefer the FabSpeed and K&N systems. There is a difference of a couple of hundred dollars in price with the Fabspeed being more expensive . Other then the FabSpeed unit looking better with the CF and all, but is there enough performance difference to justify the price Also, is there another CAI system that is better?? Thanks in advance I appreciate any and all input

EVOMS K&N is NOT prefered - at least not by anyone I know
I am also considering Fabspeed. Although interesting comments in Excellence this month seem to indicate intakes can actually decrease power as dynoed. Not so sure now, need to re-read it and make sure before I buy.
stock air box with bmc air filter will be your best friend. RS mounts (:
+1 ivangene with evoms. Love the sound. Plus it's a nice piece of engineering. Don't care about the hp loss/gain.

No idea why i said stock airbox is your best friend ... Evoms airbox is your best friend!
Most of these products should be called warm air intakes. There in lays your answer as to why that mag got those poor dyno numbers...
stay stock and go with a BMC hi-flow filter... the others arent really a CAI, the stock is..... but I have to say, they do sound nice.

Could not agree more. Save your money and disregard the claims of increased HP etc. Just my humble opinion guided by a few years of modding and then returning to stock on my own 996 and other models.
Your stock system is already a 'cold' air intake. (It takes the air from outside of the engine area). Anything else is a warm air or hot air intake. This business is a racket for the unsuspecting.
Personally, I like my Fabspeed. But intakes are like opinions....everyone has their own Fabspeed sounds pretty mean and was qood quality...does it do anything.....not sure...do any of them? Pic of my engine bay....just to show a fellow AF bro
oh boy here we go again!!
If you want "cold" intake air, colder than OAT, then add an A/C evaporator into the intake path.
Actually, there is a alternative for those that love the sound of a CAI but do not want to lose HP... the Schnell intake is less than $100 and removes the noise reducer on the factory airbox. Nice way to wake up the intake growl without sacrificing power. http://www.vertexauto.com/ShowItem/1...20Schnell.aspx David

That looks great, but I have to think that the stock airbox that takes air directly from outside the engine bay generates a cooler charge.
Agree. The pictured intake is a hot air intake. Sincerely, Macster.
Only other real good intake systems are those carbon fiber intake boxes by Carbino and there are a few other brands out there. These CFI's will run you from $1000 to $2000 dollars who knows if there worth it though.
You could also just install an updated 997 air box in there for a modern look.
