Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm sure this issue has been going on now for about two years for me. Foam shooting out of the vents...How much of it did Porsche pack in there? I thought in time all of it would have been disintegrated by now and flown out but as you can see in this photo there is still plenty left. Oh well, no wearing white when the air conditioner is on!

You and me both, man. You and me both. Annoying AF. Apparently there is an entire flap for redirecting heat/AC in the dash somewhere that is covered in that stuff. One of these days I'll rip that ductwork apart. There's a DIY somewhere.

The DIY is a really big deal is my understanding. In fact you have to rip the whole dashboard apart just to get to the vents. With that being said I'm trying to outlast the bits of foam that are remaining but yes it's a pain especially after I wash and detail the car.

In the world of technology, we call this either a feature or a bug. Call it what you will, but mine is the same. Oh well.

The foam is covering the flaps inside the ac box. It will eventually go away. The ill affect, is once the foam is gone, the heater will not be effective. Other then that, it's not a problem. There are few ways to address it, but the right way, is the long way. I did main, since I had to take the AC box apart for a leaking evaporator. I've done it on my Boxster, but it's basically the same process on the 996. Not too hard, but time consuming. This is the write up I did https://www.dropbox.com/s/hxb4w0y3in...moval.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/bjsmzjkt7f...moval.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/wjz9stc83j...ement.pdf?dl=0 And that is the shortcut. https://www.dropbox.com/s/hx9qr0t3jt...epair.pdf?dl=0

Took a quick look at the documents. Nice job documenting everything.

Hooboy. That looks like quite a project to do the full tear down. I like the shortcut option. I may go for that this winter. Thanks for the writeup.

POST 8Original post

I did the shortcut version this past weekend. Not bad at all. Maybe 2 hours total, if that.

POST 9Original post

Hello, The links to the dropbox files don’t seem to find files. Please repost if possible, especially the short cut version. Thanks, Pat

POST 10Original post

Yep. Mine is going as well. Looks like all of our foam is reaching end of life.

I seem to remember that when it's all gone, it allows hot air to mix when you have the AC on, which could be a problem in HOTlanta

I agree. I get 404 errors when trying to retrieve the dropbox files.
