Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hard to believe, my '99 996 is coming up on 20 years of ownership. Seems like only yesterday I picked it up at the dealer. Been a fantastic car!

POST 2Original post

Looks like it's been well taken care of. How many miles on it now?

Just over 64k. Next week it goes in for water pump, T-stat, a few other items, which should bring it up to snuff with maintenance.

POST 5Original post

I Like the "SUPPLE LEATHER" charge. As opposed to the rock hard leather? What was the EXCLUSIVE charge for?

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 15479964

My sticker has the same charge. Maybe it isn't all that 'exclusive'.

I love how they charge $3,215 for leather seats, AND then charge $390 to make it supple

Very cool. Original owner cars of this generation 911 is rare! How old were you when you bought it?

Supple Leather in an option, the leather is wrinkled instead of flat on the center panels.

We know. It's just funny that you have to pay almost $400 to get your leather wrinkled....

Well, those cows ain't gonna wrinkle themselves.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was 38 when I bought it, but I’ve had sports cars of one sort or another pretty much since I’ve been driving. And looking forward to my next one sometime soon. And I always wondered what the supple leather was, so thanks! It’s made a huge difference in the way it handles as a result

I wonder what type of seat fabric was shipped if you *didn't* order the leather at all. I would love a set of cloth seats but I have never ever seen a set in a 996. Car looks great. Someone is going to get a peach when you upgrade. Single owner 1999 in black. Geez Louise..

Standard seats are leather in the center and "leather" on the sides I believe? Full leather is an option, supple leather is an option. Also comfort vs sport, rear cover in leather vs body color, etc etc etc. From another thread:

POST 18Original post

Right - I see it now, the $3200 was for a full leather interior not just leather seats. My first 996 had full leather interior and supple seats. The leather work on the dash etc was really nice. I didn't really appreciate how nice that interior was until I bought my second 996 with the normal plastic dash and standard comfort seats. The dash is strictly functional and I don't love my "comfort" seats...it's been 9 years now and at 53 years old my back hurts if I trip too long. Not that I'm complaining per se. My 996 has been nothing but good to me. Both of my cars were from 2002, surprised to hear that some comfort seats may have had vinyl side bolsters. For sure the standard comfort seats in my 2002 have leather bolsters. 260,000 kilometres and they are wearing a bit.
