So I was randomly thinking it would neat to perhaps see a nice aftermarket modification of the 918 headlights converted to fit our beloved 996s. Perhaps someone with some 3D printing or plastic manufacturing skills could compose a concept of such. I think it would be a neat option for a mod or a nice alternative. Specially since some headlights are yellowing or loosing clarity from age or plagued by the degrading of those hard to come by black outer rubber seals. Another enterprising opportunity if someone was to manufacture 918 headlight mod or the black outer seals replacements.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Outer seals here... https://www.mcmaster.com/1129a992 I haven't used this but someone over on Renntech has...looks good. All this being said, a slip-in LED retrofit for our aging lights would be cool option.
I actually used to design automotive LED headlights before I started my own bike lighting company (outboundlighting.com) and while there is ways to do it, mostly through retrofits like The Retrofit Source. The only way to make it semi-worth it is to team up with an existing manufacture (such as those DEPO lights) in China/Taiwan and potentially get it done. However the tooling costs are enormous when talking about the internal guts of a headlight. It's a big part. Would be looking at probably $20-40k just in tooling for support structure and surfaces to hold an exisiting LED projector, let alone trying to develop a new one. There is a company called Morimoto that is teaming up with a Taiwanese supplier and bringing a lot of new LED headlights to the market for cars and trucks. However I reckon that the 996/986 market is just too small to justify it. When I was pitched by the company, just to do something like a Toyota Tacoma required an initial investment of over $125k to start the tooling, and the per unit cost was something like $700. So in order to turn a profit, would need to sell at like $1-1.2k, and sell at least 400-500 sets just to break even on the per unit cost alone. Let alone advertising, shipping, website maintenance, staff, etc. So..... could be done. But I doubt anyone wants to take the risk.
