Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im starting my double DIN install today and found some loose wiring under the dash, my first guess is a prior owner removed some aftermarket stuff to put it back to stock and did a hack job. Dangerous loose ends. The two black wires are different sizes. So I then inspect the rats nest behind where the single DIN radio and climate control lived. Bingo! Thick Black wire is a 15-20ft ground lead for what appears to be some sort of antennae booster adapter or the like? The red and yellow wires were for power for something since removed. All of these were uninsulated and waiting to cause a short at least and a fire at worst. Anyone know what that metal antennae accessory is?

POST 2Original post

I think you've answered your own question. That's definitely an RF amplifier. Not uncommon to open these dashes and find lots of artifacts for previous installs. I wouldn't sweat it. Just trace the wire and make sure it's not hot. Remove and move on.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks that's what I thought. Moving on....

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I opened it up. Its an FM switch, someone probably had a satellite or iPod adapter and connected the FM transmitter directly. All it has is a relay, a few capacitors and a resistor, and a diode. Not an amplifier/booster, but rather a switch.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
