Hello all! Im thinking of getting rid of my 99 m3 convertible to get into a 996 turbo. The m3 is going to be tough to let go as it has 28k miles on it and is about as clean as a 20 yr old car can be! My daily is a 2013 Stage 2 s4 so I have a hardtop already but has anyone driven both and can compare the differences from the coupe to the cab? Will I lose that much performance and stiffness by going to the cab? Do the tops become problematic over time? Thank you!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've owned a cabriolet and so YES, like many 20 year of convertibles, they'll probably need service and in some cases new tops. Performance between the Porsche and BMW and/or Audi is like apples and oranges. You'll just need to drive one to fully understand. Words can not convey the performance of these cars.

Yah, go on and get! Just kidding, good luck with your quest, these are great cars...
Cab in my opinion is better, but I am biased...

+1 I was a coupe guy, until I drove a cab with the top down. You simply cannot beat the open top experience in a sports car.
I gotta say, I love being top down in the twisties….Pretty sure I'd go with a cab again if I bought another P-car, turbo or not.
Having had both.... what do you want to do with it? DD? Track? Mix? Weekends?
This is of course a very personal decision but I LOVE having a cab! There is nothing like putting the top down and driving on any day. Even when it gets cool I put the seat heaters on windows up and rear wind deflector on the rear seats. I even keep a blanket so she can cover up and stay warm. The top is down as often as possible. There is nothing like hearing the roar of that engine behind you in a cab! As for stiffness, I would never admit that it makes me stiff... ;-}
I HATE driving with the sun in my face and hitting my head. That's why I'm a Coupe with no sunroof, or the sunroof is only open at night, kinda of guy. If I end up picking up a Boxster, I probably won't ever drive with the top down. Maybe on a cloudy day I might try it.

Maui Jim sunglasses and a nice Porsche Baseball cap is my solution!
