POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So after going to place after place and getting turned down for the fister mod on my spare mufflers I *finally* found a place that will do it. They just called me with a quote of $300 for the pair, this would be in the style of the attached image. Is this an ok price? I've been trying to get this done for months. Said I would call the guy back, this place does custom welding on mufflers so I'm pretty confident they will do a good job. thanks

POST 2Original post

That's about what Fister charges - and you'll know you're getting it done right.

POST 3Original post

Just do the Fister mod and have it done right. It will be a far more attractive mod for resale purposes if you have them do it. Just had mine installled and I love it. Haven't turned on the radio since. All exhaust note...

POST 4Original post

And all together I paid $1,326.00 but I had mine ceramic coated. That is also with $68.00 for shipping to you and $68.00 for a shipping label for your core return. And remember, you get $550 back when you send your current mufflers back to them. Couldn't have been happier with their customer service.

POST 5Original post

Wow these prices are insane. I had mine done the Gundo way (hooked to the blank PSE port) for $100 CDN, which is like 80 bucks in USD. With my Top Gear 200 cell cats it sounds heavenly with 0 drone.

how? most places I went wouldn't touch this kind of exhaust work. I'm still undecided, Fister charges $80 for the same exhaust mod and I think these guys are well qualified to do a good job. EDIT: also 996.2 mufflers will fit my 996.1 right? the spare ones I bought are off a 3.6 slightly newer car than mine. EDIT2: fleabay has a set of fabspeed maxflo mufflers for sale for $450, are these super noisy? I want something quiet on the freeway but louder when I give it more throttle.

POST 8Original post

Yes, MK-II mufflers will fit an MK-I. When I had mine done, I wasn't aware of the exchange program so I bought another pair from a Rennlist member and had them shipped to Fister. That was about 7 years ago. I still love the sound.

POST 9Original post

Total cost to me was $776.00. That included shipping to and from California to Wisconsin and ceramic coating. Thought it was pretty reasonable and not outrageously expensive. If you want to cut costs, don't get the ceramic coating. Fister is the way to go.

Took mine to a local muffler shop, explained what I wanted and they did it for $91.38, it surprised me as i expected it would be around $200. the welding doesn't look great but its sound and I have no leaks.

D6lc's mod is PSE style. Fister D mod is what Chris has in his picture. Gundo is doing Fister D style but not through Fister... That's the way I understood.

POST 13Original post

The original Gundo mod was hooking up to the blank PSE port. Fister then started doing their own mod by joining the inlet and outlet pipes. Somehow, the Fister style has been confused with the Gundo style over the years. Gundo = PSE, on all the time. Fister = Inlet/outlet connection

POST 15Original post

Fister also cleans them up and paints them. Plus from a resale standpoint you have Fister mufflers - which I believe carries some weight. Not to mention he is an overall great guy to work with.

POST 16Original post

Personally I don't see why you would pay a $500 premium for Fister to do this vs a local shop that can probably turn it around quicker

POST 17Original post

My local shop did a fine job replicating Fister-D for $100 for both cans. I coated them with hi-temp BBQ black and installed them in about an hour. With the money saved I bought a nice new set of twin tips. No brainer.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I pulled the trigger on the muffler shop welding them up. It was cheaper than fister and they have done a few sets before; so I have a high confidence they can do it right. Also wife has been the one lugging these things around in the trunk of her car, and she's tired of taking them different places! I'll post some pics when I get them back from the shop. Thanks all!

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok so got them back from the muffler shop, they did a great job so I'm happy. Next I plan to clean them off and coat them with some high temp paint, anyone have recommendations? I will go home depot and autozone on my lunch break to see what I can find. I think I'd prefer a darker color. Edit: think I'll go with a silver paint as it might reduce radiated heat from the muffler keeping the engine bay a little cooler looks like home Depot has it

POST 23Original post

I got mine done at a local muffler shop for @ $75.00..

POST 24Original post

Side question...other than making more noise what is the point of this mod? Does it affect the tuning of the exhaust system...i.e.: back pressure, exhaust pulse, etc? Are there any negative effects? This just directs part of the exhaust from the cats directly to the exhaust outlet...correct?

Is that ceramic coating?

POST 26Original post

Yes Henry, these were my original cans, I opted for the ceramic coating. I had shipped them to Fister during one of our Michigan winters. Took maybe 3-4 weeks total. Shipping was the killer.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got my mufflers painted in high temp silver; probably won't get them on until the first weekend of May

here are mine with ceramic coating, they seem a bit more shinier...

Its just the sound - thats about it. Yes, some of the noise bypasses the mufflers, thus making it louder.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thoughts would follow up on this thread, had the mufflers on for a few weeks now and they are great, normal sounding at cruise but throaty when you floor it. Overall a good mod and I'm happy!
