In the process of researching exhausts I came across a video that showed the gauges at startup. According to the video this is an 01 996, but he has fuel level in place of the clock and is displaying his miles to empty along with speed. Just curious, is this a different cluster or are there settings that I'm just not aware of? Thanks in advance Charlie

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That's an early 6-speed cluster - like my '99 - with the on-board computer functionality enabled. US or Canada, based on the labeling (MPH vs. KPH). Full leather, too. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

Interesting. So is it possible to do that on an 02+ cluster? Here is the video for those interested: You Tube

What 5CHN3LL said. Early models have OBC capabilities, but it's not activated from the factory. Porsche scan tool can activate it, but you need to wire up switches or buy a third stalk and a harness kit to cycle through the options.
Awesome. Thanks for the info! Learn something new every day.
I believe this works for the 99-01 cars; OBC is different for mid-01+ cars. From memory, so I may be completely wrong.

That's a regular early 996 gauge cluster. With the bottom stalk on the left you can circle through the display (avg mpg, left till empty, avg speed, outside temp, etc). The display on the right is the oil level, not fuel, which can be activated by turning the key to the right (before cranking) and wait for the countdown to count down. The clock returns a few seconds after startup.
Deviated stiching, nice Probably has an alumalook e-brake too.

Maybe the ultra-rare silver horn crest too?
Sh*t, your gauge clusters have e-brakes and horn crests? My gauge cluster SUCKS.
Looks like my gauge cluster, except for the namby pamby miles to empty. Who needs that? I look at the fuel level gauge and that tells me all I need to know. Ummmm...fill up when it gets low? Okie Dokie.
Psh. You have lights and can see ANY of those three LCD display segments? Luxury! We were evicted from our 'ole in the ground...we had to go and live in a lake.
