Shiz, it was 62 degrees in Charlotte today, beautiful. But snow is in the forecast (3 flakes, maybe).
CA sucks. Been there, moved out of that madness. No amount of good weather makes up for the hell of living in that rat race.
Archie Bunker was right. CA is the "land of fruits and nuts"

I was thinking that the entire time I was out there over the Christmas break. I just took the uberwagen (Audi A6 Avant) for a weekend in northern VT getting some fresh powder, so that keeps me happy. Although I keep thinking that I'll have her out in just over a month (we usually get some nice weather here in early March).
55+ and sunny here today, was blasting (and I mean BLASTING) around in a 09 CTS-V, no complaints. BUT, gonna snow tomorrow.. guess I better drive the Slob ..

Yeah, a bunch of us still get together on the weekends and laugh about when we got Wayne to move out to Philly. It's the only way to still have some open roads.
What's this snowed in talk? I'm taking the P-Car to go heli skiing this weekend.
Canyons are so much fun!

It wasn't hard - less traffic, shorter commute, cheaper real estate, more land, larger house, lower cost of living.... do I need to go on?
Quotes source post: 6244463
Yes, sell it to the rest of em for me. (don't mention you have to live in Philly though)
+5c and Sunny here...
Quotes source post: 6244463
Wayne's right on every point. But, I'd still rather be in Santa Barbara. I have no problem with 75 and sunny. It's just gorgeous there.

I guess you need some fat tires for the powder!!! Enjoy, hope you get some good weather so the bird can drop you off up high. -When I picked up my little guy(5yrs) from daycare today, I told him not to touch my Audi because it was so filthy from taking it skiing. he responded, "Wow, that must have been tough for it on the ice and snow!"

I love it, someone from a slum looking down on PA - LA is a bigtime hole. Pot calling the kettle black. If you had ever visited the Philly suburbs you'd know that it's very nice here and is home to some of the oldest money in the country.... this area is not slum. It's funny, a couple of years back we contemplated an opportunity back in CA until we realized that i) for the price of our house here we'd have to buy a dilapidated 1000 sq slum there. ii) we couldn't fit our furniture into a house in CA because they're all smaller than the ones here iii) I'm really not a big fan of houses built with 10 feet separating them. iv) I'd have to go back to spending half my life sitting in bad traffic and paying too much for the honor. Yeah, that's real quality of life. You can't sell us on that "CA is wonderful" line, my wife grew up there and still has family there - we know CA and my wife refuses to move back there because she knew it when it really was nice there and hates to see the hole that it has now become. I like Santa Barbara also, but I hate the traffic, expense, etc. Nothing makes up for the hit on the quality of life.
You, Wayne, are one emotional scientist.

nah, just have a strong dislike of CA - there's a difference.

I miss San Diego! Lived there for 17 years. Beautiful city, perfect weather, laid back.. just awesome - lots to do, too. Moved to Baltimore last year, because I thought I was ready for a change.. and.. uggghhhh.. dirty, dark, depressing.. trying to get used to it, but I just can't. Made a few trips to NYC (which is a great town), but basically more of the same between here and there. Feel like taking a gigantic mop and a big bottle of Lysol to most cities out here. I'm going crazy!
Sorry guys but I just could not resist---yesterday at noon.....
Everywhere has trade offs. Climate / People / COL / Population Density / Taxes / Proximity to Family Pick a couple that are important to you. I'm an NC native, but one of the greatest realizations I've made recently about this area is the great group of Pcar owners!
Philly and the suburbs are really beautiful - 3 seasons of the year. I just hate winter, anywhere where it's cold and snowy. And Philly remains one of the areas of the country where property values have withstood the recession (Philly was down 2% last year v. 9% for the US as a whole). The Main Line is gorgeous and Philly is easily accessible from the burbs and you can actually find parking!

Welcome to the East Coast. DC's only a bit cleaner but traffic more than makes up for that. IMHO population density in the DC Metro is way too high. Baltimore is better in this respect to DC. My wife is from NYC and she laughs at me when I say this complain about our population density. I make frequent visits to the city to visit her family and I can't imagine staying living there. Nice place to visit but not for me long term. Funny thing is I love Hong Kong (even with it's insane population density). It's like NYC but clean and safe.

Tony Lukes' Philly cheese steak sandwich and their roast pork w/sharp provolone sandwich.
mmmmmmmmm Tony Lukes... I'm from the east coast right across the river in Jersey, but I do love California. I don't mind the winter (I love it in fact), but I just cannot stand the ridiculous high heat/humidity in the summer. Just spent 2 months on a project in Philly, and while I was staying in Old city, my friends live outside near Bryn Mawr. Beautiful houses, large, historic, etc, etc. East coast definitely has a great feel. HOWEVER, today for example. I can drive 45 minutes up the mountains to go skiing or 30 minutes west to go to the beach and surf. Few places offer that kind of diversity. Although, nothing really beats NYC.
We do have our hellish summers, but I am loving Tucson's winter right now with my cab. It's 75 and sunny here climbing to maybe 80 this week, low cost of living, and only a 5 hour drive to San Diego when the need to see ocean sets in.

We had a bit of snow today but this weekend should be warm-ish.
Quotes source post: 6245697
Yep. We've got some great restaurants, music and sports venues, too. Now, if we could just get a football team that knows how to win. Phillies didn't have a bad season!

I love the West coast however, when I was there to visit I stayed in NorCal in Discover Bay at my brother's. Those homes were large enough and had the Bay as the backyard. Highway traffic was no fun though but the drive down the mountain passing the windmills was great fun. Baltimore has plenty of room for living probably due to it's job market. So many from my Agency commute from Baltimore to DC daily. The "hood" in Baltimore is really sad compaired to DC, as I learned while attending college up there. But as most cities, it has it's posh area's too. While in college I've always heard Phily called Philthadelphia (I though it was because the guys fight dirty). I didn't really know what they meant until I and my old car club had meet up there. The roads were very dusty just oustide of the downtown area. However, I've only been there a couple of times since then but things were very much the same. I love Philly women though, because they are sooo nice to me. South street was fun. DC is pretty decent. I believe for the mass amount of people that commute to and through DC that it's very clean and safe. I believe it's Metro(subway) system is one of cleanest in the world. Parking in DC is easy, so much so folks actually still run out to move their car from one meter to the next throughout the day. I, however, park in the one of many garages, fyi. Let it be known, I may be biased since both of my parents were born and raised in DC(not the burbs). I and my siblings were for many decades the only ones that lived in the suburbs of DC. We took alot of criticisms from our DC purists family. The rush hour commute to downtown DC for me is nearly 45-50 minutes each way at a distance of 24 miles away. What slows me down is the 7 miles of back roads (2 lane and some 1 lane) to reach a major DC bound artery.

Same down here... Shame that we're supposed to get rain while everyone will be trying to watch the Buick Invitational this weekend. I spent last week in Colorado Springs during their blizzard... the week before that in Dallas and the week before that in DC... and every time I come home I remember why I live here and nowhere else... there aren't any problems here that can't be worked around... avoid the commute by working from 5 am to 3 pm... commute about a half hour inland to get a 2500 sq ft house on a half acre (that's a long jump from house to house)... and the weather... half hour further inland we can play in the snow in the winter... beach volleyball and golf are year round activities here... I've had several opportunities to leave (Hawaii, New England, Atlanta) and could never get myself to pull the trigger... and glad that I didn't. The Delaware Valley is a great place to live, and the Historical beauty of driving through Chester, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and yes even doing West River or Kelly Drive in the Spring & Fall is picturesque.

great minds think alike...I only hope you have sunroof delete
Nope, I've got a sunroof. Although I just put in a B&M SSK and will install the S.S. (dual oval) exhaust tips some weekend this spring.
