Has anyone determined a decent way to improve AM reception? I realize it is old school, but a lot of trips up I 75 searching for the Braves broadcasts drives me crazy. One inning or less is all I can get out of any one station between Atl and Knoxville.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I barely get FM.
LOL, definitely need to listen to a CD with the stock radio
Am I the only one that listens to sports/news talk radio or ballgames? I made a replacement windshield antenna for a car years ago, but it took hours and days of trial and error to get the length, resistance, and conductor right. Probably easier to get a Satellite radio, I just hate to pay for what has ben free for so long
I have the same problem. I am 50 miles outside of NYC and like to listen to talk radio during a long commute. None of my German cars (Audi and Porsche) get decent AM reception. It tends to be hit and miss depending on the weather, time of day, and time of year. I hop in my old Jeep and it comes in perfect all of the time. I guess the antenna in the glass really kills the reception.
XM radio solves my ballgame requirements. It isn't free, but it beats not hearing it at all.
Seriously, satellite radio is the only way to go. We all complained about paying for cable in the past, but it's really no big deal. Figure it this way, no commercials, a great variety of stations, and all you can eat sports.
And you think what you can get on Sirius and XM is the same as the "free" AM/FM band? You really need to investigatte a bit more.
This is true. It's like comparing the free TV stations to cable or satellite.
I don't know where it is currently, but the Boxster forum (do a search) had a liknk to a mod for the Boxster AM reception. Should be the same as the 996. Essentilaly there is a small black connector/box in the passengers side A pillar. This box has a metal braket that screws into the A frame that acts as a ground. The mod is to sand the paint down to the metal where the bracket attaches. This improves the ground. I haven't tried it on my 996, but it did help a little bit on my 986. I don't know why German cars get such crappy AM receipton. If you need a good laugh, walk into a highend car audio store and ask them which head unit gets the best AM reception Lots of blank stares.....
