Right when I pass 3K RPM's in first gear I hear a slight rasp or very very rapid ticking or scratchy noise. It is hard for me to describe.. I think it might happen on 2nd gear as well, but its hard to say becuase the wind noise. I have my windows down to hear it, with the windows up, I do not hear it. I think the noise is more noticeable when the car is either cold and even afer it is just warmed up... the nose is not as noticeable after the car is fully, fully warmed up. Any ideas what this could be? I hope its nothing bad!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

sorry, that was dry humor.
PUHAHAHAHAHAHA
Variocam
Vario-Cam at 3K? or 5K?
I thought it was somewhere around 3K+. Could be wrong though. Anyone got the definitive rpm when the variocam kicks in?
its like 3200-3400 in my car
what does variocam sound like? Is it like a really fast ticking or scratchy or raspy, hard to describe noise?
i don't really hear the variocam, but i can feel it in second gear when i floor it from lower rpms
The Vario-cam kicks in at 3200 RPM in my car. I don't hear anything different, I just "feel" the additonal torque.
Not sure what the variocam sounds like, I just was offering it as a possiblity as it is something that changes in the engine operation at the RPMs mentioned. Good luck!
