Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I am only new to the forum and looking for recommendations. Looking to purchase Maxflo Mufflers &/or cat bypass pipes. The Fabspeed site gives an indication of performance gains, however what should I expect regarding exhaust noise. loud or LOUD ! It is also worth doing the headers at the same time? All is intended for a 1999 tip/cab.

POST 2Original post

Hi and welcome. I have the Maxflo muffler on mine (don't have the bypass) and can tell you that the sound is nice but not overly loud. It roars when you rev it but around cops or neighbours it's quite civilised.

POST 3Original post

Bypass pipes are LOUD not loud, as you put it...

POST 4Original post

If you want your 996 to sound like an american muscle car or a honda civic rice rocket and enjoy cabin resonance get the maxflo mufflers otherwise get PSE I have no experience of GHL

POST 5Original post

Ouch.....I can't say I hear resonance at all with mine...might it have to do with the installation ??? Can't say it sound like a rice rocket...at least I hope it doesn't....to each his/her own. I do like the sound of the PSE but my dealer wanted to charge me an arm and a leg to install it despite the fact that I told them I didn't want the switch.

POST 6Original post

No bypass here, just the fabspeed mufflers. I agree with mbergeron, I have the fabspeed and no resonance nor do I think it sounds "ricy". To each their own... No matter what exhaust you choose, attempt to hear it in person firsthand, best case head-to-head with other exhausts. Good luck.

POST 7Original post

I don't have the Fabspeed, but I have heard it also and it definitely DOES NOT sound ricey, though perhaps muscle car-ish to my ear. If I were to describe ricey, it would be that Suzuki or Kawasaki racebike sound, but definitely not a freer-flowing Porsche exhaust sound.

POST 8Original post

Fabs here, zero resonance. It is loud, but a good loud. If noise is any concern at all, steer clear of aftermarket high performance mufflers, by definition they're gonna be louder. I've had stock, GHL and now fabspeed, fabs are by far my favorite.

POST 9Original post

i have the fabspeed muffler bypass, and from my friends that hear it 5 blocks away, they describe it as it sounds like a jet taking off resonating between the buildings when driving full throttle downtown

POST 10Original post

interesting review. I don't have any resonance on my fabspeed mufflers and I hope it doesn't sound like a american muscle car or honda civic! But I guess sound is subjective. Heres a clip of mine: http://media.putfile.com/MOV0014878

POST 11Original post

Fabs here, no significant resonance (if any) at all, way better sound. If you want to spend $1500+ for $10 worth of pipes slapped onto standard cans get PSE, a rip off IMO. Like Chris said, if you can't stand any loudness at all you had best steer clear of any and all high performance exhausts. FWIW the bypass pipes are way LOUD.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank-you all for your comments....greatly appreciated! Hope I indicated correctly, I am not looking to bypass the mufflers but install Fabspeed Cat bypass pipes &/or install Fabspeed mufflers.

POST 13Original post

Totally opposite experience here. I have a 3.6L with fabspeed mufflers and I find them quite quiet for a performance exhaust. Its a great sound but not really that loud, I call it my gentlemens exhaust. And zero resonance... Id like it a tad louder personally however the bypass pipes are just too loud for everyday.

POST 14Original post

i love my fabspeed bypass.. i don't know why, i just do... oh don't mind the sig.. it doesn't mean anything..
