Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Went to put on the new mufflers last weekend and discovered just about every visible nut and bolt is rusted up. I know I'll have to cut the nuts off the clamping sleeve, and maybe more. Looking at the parts diagram, I get the following: clamping sleeve (that attaches muffler to cat)--nuts and bolts not listed. Anyone know size and length? clip (that attaches tip to mufler)----nuts and bolts not listed. Anyone know size and length? The two vertical bolts are M8x70 and M8x140, but they look ok. I can easily split the nuts if needed. The three studs in the supports take M8 nuts, and they look ok too. Also, the M8 nuts appear to be flanged, but are the serrated?

the first time I did mine they were HEAVILY rusted !! spray them down several times and for several days before you take them off..some sort of penatrating oil (wd-40 stuff) when taking them off, keep in mind ALL that rust is being removed by the nut and jams the nut on... so work it off a little, then back on... spray some oil, and repeat... keep it "free" of rust inside the nut (as much as you can) and keep it COOL (the rust + turning force will generate heat, enough heat to weld the nut on the bolt.... that's when turning the nut = breaking the bolt) - If you have to stop a while, and let it cool down... I was able to get mine off without any trouble... just take your time and you will be fine (IMO) Also if you have a wire brush, hit the exposed threads with that to knock off as much rust as possible prior to starting (these are cheaper then new bolts for sure) Last - and most important.... wear safety glasses - you really dont want a piece of rust in your eye....

POST 3Original post

I agree with Ed, the hardware is a stainless alloy(not a great one) so if you liquid wrench and wire brush the ends they should come off and be useable. Did mine and they all came off no problem although my car is a Florida car so no winter salt. Good luck with the mods

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found out that all the bolts in question are not separate. I'll give it another try this weekend.

POST 5Original post

these nuts/bolts and clamps are fairly cheap... give Aaron at suncoast a call. +1 at what Ed sez...
