Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got the call and dropped my car off at the dealer today. It will take a coule of days and back on the road. Barrier was great in working with the Porsche rep. They just got tired of seeing my car in for the same repair. Porsche ran out of rebuilts so they shipped a new engine from Germany. Good luck to the RMS club members. I hope to be a past member next week.

POST 2Original post

It must have been that Seattle humidity that caused all the seal problems

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I do not care as long as they get it squared away. I will miss an autocross this weekend, I guess this is why they do not provide Porsche loaners :-) My next track day is on the 24th. We will see how the 2004 motor works then

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

what will the break in process be?

POST 6Original post

Other than what your were told, how do you know it is a new engine? Do you have a part number for the replacement engine?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

At this point only trust. I have zero reason to not trust the guys at Barrier. However, as a great man once said "trust but verify". I did drop the car off prior because the rebuilt was to be delivered. They then found out that Porsche ran out of engines, which are stored in South Carolina, and I had to wait for a new one from Germany. They have more new 996 engines because of the end of the model year. I saw the engine when I droped off the car and indeed it was shipped from Germany. I will have the part number information today.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What should I look for as proof of the rebuilt vs. new???

POST 9Original post

So much for blind trust. This is a 'new' rebuilt Boxster motor. This is a new Boxster motor. If the part number ends in an X then it is rebuilt. If you search under my user name you will find the story of my local Boxster owner friend Jean who has gone through this issue, which is why I asked. He is waiting for replacement engine number 4 to be put in.
