Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We're thinking of heading to the beach for a few days and I'd love to take my car, but not sure how to fit a 30lb dog into the back seat. She's more than content to curl up and lie in a very small spot for hours on end (usually on the floor behind the front seat of my truck), but I'm kind of worried about the central tunnel in the 996 as it feels like it's made out of carboard and carpet. Are there any companies that sell any type of cover or device for taking your dog in the back seats? Any home made remedies? Any adivce at all? And no, I'm not going to make my wife sit back there and let the dog have the front, I don't think she'd go for that. Thanks.

hah, i was going to suggest her sitting back there and have the dog sit shotgun

Many years ago, my rottweiler puppy was in the back of my '92 Cab being very quiet. When I got up to my friends cottage, the dog had eaten a part of the interior. I would think twice about the dog in the back (or feed it before you leave!).

POST 4Original post

you can remove the seat bottoms as they are velcoed in. Mainly other than chewing I would worry about the dog scratching the plastic or leather.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

She won't chew anything, as soon as the car starts she's out until the trip is over...unless you open a window of course. But scratching stuff on accident is a possibility. That's why I'm hoping someone knows of a cover of some type for the rear seat area. I see plenty of things for SUVs and sedans, but not for a 996.

POST 6Original post

fold the setbacks down she doesnt look too big. then she has big flat. if she's too big to turn around on seat backs, leave them up. she'll curl up in one seat with head on the tunnel. you dont say but cabs are better. we used to cruise long distance with 2 labs in the back of our c2 cab. if you're ****, put a towel under her. but what's dog hair? it's part of someone you love. she wont chew unless you leave her alone for hours ... also i would put a harness on her [mandatory in a cab] to the seat belt. so she's safer in an accident. you'll become facile a undoing and reclipping it when she winds it up.

As was mentioned.....fold down the backs and then you have a nice flat shelf.........there is a co that makes a carpet piece to goes over that area created by seat backs folded down........I use the one I bought for the 993 (it's not as wide as could be for 996 but serves the purpose). To keep it in place I've fastened 2 large right-angled pieces of plastic in the bottom side up to the back edge. When I set the whole piece in the flat pieces ea slide down behind the reclined seat-backs.....keep the carpet piece from inching forward when the dog move around. "Dogs".....two black Cockers.........gotta get a pic of this, the big guy is about 35 lbs and loves to wear sun glasses customized for him. We have a Cab (which means our back seat area is small)...but these guys love the day drives.......people laugh when they see us. Also..... on the cab, if you have to put the top up, those two small windows in back are perfect for the dogs, even when the rest of the car is buttoned up. Have fun!

I have a 70 lb. Golden Retriever that rides with me all the time. I just put down an old blanket in the back seat and she's fine. Just make sure that the nails are trimmed!
