Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In my search for a C4S / 40th anniversary car, I bought a paint thickness meter ($225 Highline II made by Elcometer). Call me paranoid, but stealers claiming the car "has never had any accidents/no paintwork" when the car has had them is becoming too frequent. Then I get the "Oh, I didn't realize that." Pisses me off. So anyway, I measured a car ranging from low 3's, but mostly around 5 throughout most of the car. It makes me think that the car has been buffed to death in the sections where the 3's were. I did measure a high in the low 7's. The 7's were in the rear hump section and it was uniform from the passenger and driver side. So I figure that BOTH sides would have had to have been painted if the car was painted at all. I would think this is "stock" and is unlikely that the car was painted. So my question is, has anyone else out there measured the paint thickness of their car? If so, what values did you get? Did you get around 7 in the rear wheel hump sections?

FWIW, I seen to recall 5 was the teh majority of readings on my '04 996 when the dealer was checking it out.
