Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All, Newbie here. I've been looking for a 99 - 01 996, dark metallic paint, tan interior. Fairly common combo I would imagine. Very diifficult to find one reasonably priced- 20K. Don't need a perfect car, just one that's sound mechanically and clean. Dealers have cars with 5 owners and 90K miles for $25K !! Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

Don't necessarily be afraid of what appears to be a high number of owners -- that's just a title transfer count and not actual representation of how many "homes" it has had. I'm sure that in time you can find a car that generally meets your requirements, but you are going to make some quality concessions -- mechanical, mileage and/or cosmetic -- at that price point. And its going to take some time and work. You may also need to travel ($) to find one within that range, and add another +-$300 for a PPI, which is a must. You'll find that a lot of guys here spent many months tracking down their cars -- be prepared to do so. What part of the country are you in -- that will also impact the speed of your search. We all have budget constraints -- but I think most of the guys here will tell you that if you can get to $25K, the number of quality cars to choose from increases considerably. Good luck!
