Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok, tried reading all the extended warranty threads, but couldnt find exact answers to my very quick questions...i figure the easiest way would be to just list them in # order: 1.can you get a porsche extended warranty on a car bought from a private seller? 2.does the porsche extended warranty cover the rms? 3. what is the warranty on the CPO porsches, and doe sthat cover rms? i think that should do it for now...thanks alot!

POST 2Original post

1. No 2. therefore, No. 3. don't know the mileage, yes.

POST 3Original post

1. maybe but depends on a dealer. IA dealer may charge upto $1000 for a passthru sales fee. However, you will have to fix all known issues to be eligible for the warranty. The warranty itself is about $2500. On top of it, expect to spend 1-2K to bring the car to the original spec. (good tires, brakes and etc) 2. yes 3. yes

POST 4Original post

Ubergeek, I'd be pleased to know of any dealer offering an extended Porsche warranty. As far as I've heard, you basically have to sell the car to the dealer and buy it back as CPO, presumably at a higher price.

POST 5Original post

Hi Lee, The key here is "passthru" transaction. Those who live in Oregon don't know because you guys dont have to pay the sales tax :-) Technically you are right. In passthru transaction, the car is technically sold to the dealer by the seller and you buy the car from the dealer. Why do people do that? This way the seller can get the full tax credit if he buys another car from the dealer. Also, the buyer of the used car can potentially get all dealer offered services such as CPO. I bought my car from my coworker when he found the replacement (996TT)at the local porsche dealer so I went thru the whole deal. However, I chose not to buy the 2 year porsche warranty for $2500+certifcation process. It is 99 model and the car has been super reliable since new. Thanks!

As to question number 1, there are a couple of factors. First, is the car still under factory warranty? If so, most aftermarket companies will let you purchase a service contract on it. Second, if it's out of factory warranty you may still be able to buy a service contract but only after the vehicle has been inspected. Different dealers have relationships with different service contract companies, so the answers to your questions, along with pricing and coverage, will vary from dealer to dealer. I work in this industry so let me know if you need any suggestions as to who has good coverage or plans available.
