browsing ebay today and saw this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-CA...item415b36dff8 dealer reports that they could not get the car to turn over because 'the car thinks it's in second gear' any ideas as to why?? seems like it could be a good price for someone who can figure out what's wrong with it??

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

costly, R&R tranny....
diagnosis....it's a TIP.....RUN !!
Repo? It could be the fired machenic did not know what he was doing. Possibly the act of repo tripped the immobilizer. Wonder if the keys are working and/or original RFID?
Looks a bit molested and/or neglected..

This whole thing stinks. Why would this seller futz about for 2 years trying to sort this problem out? Not only did it cost the seller money out of pocket the car was depreciating all the while. A few hours at the local/nearby Porsche dealer would have at least let the seller know what the problem was and if not serious the seller could have had the problem fixed and the car sold now. It is not a good price until one knows why the engine won't start and can fix this, whatever the cause. (Sounds like electronics which might be due to rodent damage, flood damage, theft, vandalism, inept mechanic. I note the car is a repossession which can mean the car lived a hard neglected life.) As long as the car can't be started and the car driven no one can give the car a thorough checkout to determine the car's true condition. The car is just some lame sick car (from the reading of it with one wheel in the salvage yard) with a seller looking to sell the car on a gimick. Walk away. Far away. Sincerely, Macster.
Can't start car, can't evaluate it! RUN RUN RUN!!!
This is not a "deal" - like someone says, the car looks like it's been molested with all the bad mods its endured...
