Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First off, this is my first post. I found this site about 3 weeks ago as I was helping a friend research his purchase of a 2001 C4. I've already found this site to be incredibly informative and am glad to have it as a resource as I consider my own potential purchase over the next 12-18 months. That being said, I came across this shot on the official site and wasn't sure what color this car is. My guess is its black and its the lighting that's giving it the blueish feel, but I figured someone here would probably know for sure. Thanks in advance and I'm glad to be aboard.

POST 3Original post

Are you sure? I thought it was either Seal Gray or Atlas Gray. But then again the LCD display on my laptop is not that good.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought it might be Atlas grey too... For some reason, it just doesn't "look" like midnight blue to me.

POST 5Original post

Looks Basalt Black to me - there's a car for sale locally with that color. Emanuel

POST 6Original post

Agree with Basalt black. Check out the "car configurator" option @ Porsche.com

POST 7Original post

Unfortunately, the only real way to appreciate the various colors is to see them in person. I've been very deceived in the past by relying on representations on the computer screen, although if you look at a whole lot of pictures of a certain color under different lighting conditions, you'll get a far better idea than from one. The problem in seeing colors in person, of course, is that dealers play it safe and order almost exclusively silver, gray, and black, thinking that they won't offend anyone. Here's one of the best places to check out colors on-line: http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/gallery/ Andy '02 Seal gray 996 Targa

POST 8Original post

I may be wrong , but i am pretty sure that is SLATE GREY!!

POST 9Original post

It is ANY color you want it to be. Porsche's website uses this imagery to trick the eye. It could be Black, Basalt, Black Metallic, Midnight, Lapis, Slate, Seal or nearly anything else. It's the lighting and trickery that makes it appear the same color as the background and lighting.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think we have a winner... If/when I have the car and the money, I might just have to see if I can find someone that will color match for me because I literally go weak in the knees every time I see this picture... which is often since its my desktop. Thanks for all the input.

POST 11Original post

you can never tell about sales brochure pictures. they are all done in studios. you need to go to a dealer and look at the cars to see what colors you like

POST 14Original post

Looks Guards Red to me.........I told the cop the red light looked orange once and he just laughed though....

POST 15Original post

its probably black, but i agree with eric. they deliberately did that so people browsing the website could equate it with 'their car'.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I agree and I've since found pics of several in "normal" light and I still really like it. Have you been happy w/ the choice and is the blue tint very noticable (which I like) or does it only show up in certain light? Thanks.

POST 19Original post

this is the very first shot of C4S back in 02. it is SEAL GREY. compare the side marker color to the color of the car. seal is the closest color to it.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
