Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey this might be alittle off topic, but i am curiuos why do our cars sound like they are going to break when you shut them off....whats up with that up???

POST 6Original post

Definitely a problem with your vehicle. Have it checked. Nothing like that here.

POST 8Original post

I know what he is referring to. I have had two 996s and on occasion you hear a metallic noise on shut off. It is not every time. If you guys listen carefully (turn the radio off, etc.) you will hear it. It definately happens once in a while.

POST 9Original post

It takes the radio a few seconds to shut off after you turn off the car. Maybe it's bad music ;-)

POST 10Original post

Not if you turn it off before you turn off the engine!

POST 11Original post

i think it's your flywheel rattling. have it checked out.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for making me think i wasnt nuts......I knew i was hearing something, as i said befor dealer said this was normal

POST 13Original post

I have the same problem... If you have the clutch engaged prior to shut off you won't get the clanking noise. I took it in twice for this and they said it was normal for the DMF to rattle and have some sort of movement at shut-off. I thought this to be strange bc other porsches didn't sound like that at shut-off. You should take it in and have them take a look. let me know what they find.. The techs in Canada might be more competent then the ones we have hear..

POST 14Original post

Does it happen after you've driven it pretty hard?

POST 15Original post

I hear the same sound sometimes. Also hear it if I get close to stalling it starting from a stop and not giving it enough gas (e.g. when parking). Let me know what you find out. Tim

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK guys car is going in tomorow for 24k service, ill update you when i get the car back.......I think it needs a RMS again! not sure tho

POST 17Original post

I've heard that scary noise just above stall speed a few times. It's LOUD. Otherwise no strange noises here.
