Car is making a strange noise when I engage the clutch. Have 50,000 highway miles on it. Could clutch be going or is it something minor? Car is going into shop on Monday. About what can I expect to pay to have a new clutch installed? Don't want to get taken for a ride. Thanks, Dan

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Not much information to go on there bud. Yes it could be the clutch, yes it could be something minor. Kinda depends on what the noise sounds like, when it happens, how loud it is, does it happen every time, does it happen any other time, is the clutch behaving normally....all car make noise, that one of the reason there are mufflers. Price wise - clutch parts can be purchased for: clutch kit: 800 flywheel: 1000 clutch slave 150 misc bolts etc: 100 Source: Pelican Parts. So count on 2500 for parts. Call it another 10 hours (fat) for labour at $100 per hour. If it costs a whole lot more than $3500 they'd better be able to explain why. Good chance they will quote Porsche dealer prices for parts - that will almost double the cost I would think. Ask in advance dude. Don't argue after the fact. The flywheel may be optional - depends on the noise and the damage. Another option is to replace the Intermediate Shaft bearing while they are in there (hot debate). That will add about $900 installed. Bit of advice (pardon any implied rudeness) - if you honestly think that just asking if a "noise" could be a clutch or something minor then you are in a very good position to be taken advantage of. Listen/observe, correlate data, think, research, learn. You'll be safer..otherwise you'll have to rely on trust.
Which shop? +1 for RMS & IMS What year? C4 cost more then C2. 50K HWY miles is a little early. Was the clutch getting harder to push? Was it a squeak under the dash? = Helper spring above pedal.
