Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anybody trying to get rid of a set of cat bypass pipes for my 1999?

POST 3Original post

I believe you can screw in a littel offset pipe for the 2nd O2 sensor and trick it into believing the cat is still there. Having said that, has anyone tried cutting off the catalytic cans and weld in straight pipes instead? Seems like the cheapest solution to losing some weight and back pressure, while gaining a lot more (I'm not sure about better) sound. Joost

John, I just emailed you. I have a set of Fabspeed cat bypass pipes for sale. I had them on a few months. With Fabspeed Maxflow mufflers and headers, my 1999 996 is a little loud as a daily driver. Interesting enough, the cel on my car never came on. The throttle response and top end seems better with the bypass. But I never dyno the car to compare before and after. Let me know if you interested. You can email me at: [email removed] Litko

When I had my Turbo S4, "Piggie Pipes" were somewhat popular. I think they essentially took this approach. If you are interested, search them on the Audiworld forums, there was a member there offering the service.

I actually bought the set from Litko and they sound great and still have not triggered a check engine light.

Hey Joost, have you tried this? Sounds interesting.

POST 8Original post

JC3D, I am glad you like the the sound. Do you notice any difference in throttle response? They definitely save about 15 to 20 lbs which is important when you are racing. But with your lap time at Laguna Seca, you don't need any more weight saving ;-) Litko

Mike, Actually I got this tip from Sjur... Haven't tried them yet (80 bucks a pop is kind of expensive for such a small piece of metal). http://shop.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/-...Extension.html Joost
