Considering my first 911 purchase, looking at one with these specs: 2001 C4 Cab triple black 29k miles, optional hardtop, heated seats, 18" sportclassic wheels with colored crests, set of 18" snow tires only also, partial leather, multi CD. Original owner with all docs, always garaged. 59K. Does that sound like a good price and a good car, particularly for my first? Carfax clear and PPI will be done, but it is still in warranty from Porsche. Trying to rationalize giving up a mint condition already paid for 928 that I have worked on for 2 years (altough a friend is waiting to buy it so I will have some money), for a new toy with a big car payment.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

that sounds like an OK price. it's not a BUY IT NOW!!! price, but it's not bad either. there's a lot of 996s on the market for good prices right now (like mine ).
That's looks like a pretty good price. But if you can afford to spend a few $$ more, look for an '02. There were a significant amount of changes to the '02 model. I started out looking for an '01 and ended up getting an '02 because of all of the changes. Whichever one you get, make sure that you understand all of the options that were available and the ones that you "must have." Don't settle for one without the options that you want.
I agree... having both an 01 C4 and a 2004 C4S Cab I would save up some money for an 02 or later... many improvements and refinements.
OK I'll bite what are the options I must have from your experience? Alos what makes the 02 so much better than the 01?
Well, the HP goes from 300 to 320. Quoting from the sales brochure... "..Careful reshaping of the front and rear bumpers and the front air dam. The result is 25% less lift in the front and 40% less lift at the rear. Reinforcements in the body structure have resulted in a 25% increase in torsional rigidity for crisper response and enhanced agility. The standard 17-inch wheels weight almost 8 pounds less while the optional 18-inch wheels are over 24 pounds lighter. The front air ducts have been reshaped to increase the flow of cooling air to the radiators by 15%." You also get the glass rear window if you are looking at the cab. I also think that the VarioCam Plus engine was new for '02 in the 996, but I'm not totally sure on this one. With regard to "must have" options, my list included PSM (Std on C4; opt on C2) heated seats, 18" wheels, litronics and I was very specific on the color that I wanted. After that, everything else was gravy. I managed to find a loaded C4 Cab, certified, with all my stuff back east and had it shipped west. Good Luck! It's a great car.
Excellant, Davemo. A great response. I love this board!
