Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i just participated in my first autocross the other day...unbelievable fun. i've owned three 911's over the years and have been a member of the porsche club all this time, and can't believe it's taken me this long to really enjoy the car the way it was intended. if you're new to the porsche world or just haven't gone to any driver ed events, just do it...it's a blast. never heard so many folks laughing and outright squealing. grown men. awesome.

POST 3Original post

autox is fun except it beats the crap our of your tires and brakes...

POST 4Original post

yea.... DE's are SOOOO much easier on your tires and brakes hey man, WTG - now you will be watching the calender and counting down the weekends till ya get to go again...dont worry, the wife and kids will get used to you geing gone 1-2 Saturdays/month

POST 5Original post

Shopping weekends for the ladies and party time for older kids. Glad you had a really fun time. I'm real surprised Ed didn't comments about a certain chariteristic about a post that means it never happened. I wouldn't mind seeing some pictures. Got any?

POST 7Original post

Tires yes, brakes no especially if you compare to DE's. AutoX is a great place to learn car control and vehicle dynamics in a safe environment. Glad you liked it.

POST 9Original post

I've been considering an autox. I've done about 25 days worth of DEs over the past few years. Will the autox seem boring compared to Mid Ohio? I guess there is one way to find out...

POST 10Original post

Autocross is a different style of racing. With DEs, you're driving fast, but conservatively within the limits of your car. Autocross is all about driving at or slightly over the limits of your car, which is a lot of fun in and of itself. It's cheap enough, no reason not to try

POST 11Original post

One challenge to AX, vs DE, is you need to learn the course "NOW".. not in 2 laps.. or 10 laps.. or 10 DE days.. but NOW. Anyone can drive a course that doesn't change and get good at it. Not many can "master" a new course in 3-4 runs.. and then do it again the next time.. and the next.. What will seem "boring" is sitting around all day for 3-6 minutes of driving time. However, its cheap, it can be an adrenaline rush and its competitive. Glad to hear the OP enjoyed their AX adventure. I love to do BOTH DE and AX.. AX keeps you sharper.. DE keeps you smoother.

What's this 'I may business...'. This ain't Simon says! Time to "Porsche Up" buckeroo .......you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner....

POST 13Original post

It might help your times to put some booze in the back so it will be like some of your old high school weekend liquer runs. Well at least what ever amount you prefer to be happy was on the fun autoX cruise with you as you drink it during the weeks till your next autoX.

POST 14Original post

I'm looking forward to my 1st autoX. Where can I rent a helmet for the day? I would consider buying if I take to it.

POST 15Original post

Most clubs have loaner helmets. If they don't, you can usually borrow one from another driver.

I know for my region, they make sure the everyone knows that you have a loaner helmet

POST 17Original post

Auto-x is fun until you do a track event. Then you will wonder why you wasted your time on AX.

POST 18Original post

NNJR has loaner helmets. Make sure to ask ahead of time. You may want to invest in a balacava.

POST 19Original post

In many ways, an autox is a more intense than a DE. Although the speeds are higher in a DE, you don't have the luxury of straights to take your time to set up for the next turn. It is one turn after the other and the challenge of seeing your route through a sea of cones. There are few other places you can take your car to--and beyond--its limit of adhesion so safely. A very good way to learn what your car and and can't do. The skills you learn are directly applicable to accident avoidance on the local streets and highways--moreso than DE's. Yep...tire wear is a consequence. But note that if you can learn to drive smoothly, you experience faster times and less tire wear.

POST 20Original post

I agree with that. I started in AutoX about 7 years ago. I really learned how quick things can happen and how the car can really make your head spin. The knowledge from AX led me to DE's. I also went t o DE's because of 6 minutes of drive time compared to 25 minute stints at a DE. Also learned 2 more things.. 1. The car can do it..its the driver that needs to learn. 2. Your a$$ (literally) starts to get ESP. You need to trust it.

POST 21Original post

Thanks, guys. Hopefully I will come out of this with better understanding of the car. The next autox for my region is Oct 10. Can't wait.
