I have searched and read all of the posts on PSE and related exhausts. I have heard, however, that Porsche "improved" the exhaust note on the 2003 911's so that perhaps spending the cash on PSE will not necessarily provide a richer sound. Fabspeed appears to be distinctly different in its sound, but I am a bit reluctant to go aftermarket if the PSE sound is appreciably better. Any views on this issue of 2003 (and presumably later) models sounding different thatn prior years?

Mark, my only 2 cents, Fabspeed has significant weight saving, BUT I like the PSE notes wayyyyyy better(to my taste/IMHO). I'm getting the PSE myself one of these days. Fabspeed, $1K PSE at least $1.3K w/o the silencer switch in ebay
I agree.. You'll get a ton of opinions regarding the endless debate of PSE vs. FabSpeed (or any other aftermarket exhaust system). My $.02 is that the FabSpeed sounds better than the PSE (I'm ultra-biased ), it's cheaper and also saves the weight (as Carerra Mike stated). I'm not sure about performance figures but I am sure the two systems are comparable. Go to their website and watch the video: http://www.fabspeed.com/996.html Should speak for itself. Good luck! btw, you can't go wrong with either system..
PSE sounds awesome - a melody of different mechanical octaves as you rise through the gears... the fabspeed just sounds loud and mean and in comparison doesn't sound as sweet as the PSE... the fabspeed is a tad louder... buthe stock PSE is certainly an increase in volume... as for the 2003 stock exhaust I haven't heard it but the 3.6 litre motors sound much better STOCK than the 3.4 motors STOCK. More of a diff when upgrading a 3.4 to PSE vs 3.6 to PSE.... 3.6 already sound somewhat sporty... of the 2 Fabspeed and PSE are your best choices... I heard both and bought the PSE.
My '03 did not have PSE and I added it after having the car about 6K miles. It is a BIG difference from the stock exhaust. I like it a lot. Its loud but not obnoxious. One of my neighbors told me she can hear me coming home but she likes it because she knows who it is. (I did not have the switch installed). Sounds great in parking garages .
FWIW I put a 3.6 PSE on my 2001 Cab and never looked back, recentlly I combined the PSE with a EVO MS intake, one word about the sound of the combo. "AWESOME"
The stoch '03 996 exhaust sounds slightly better than an '02, however, still like a vacum cleaner. I swapped mine out after 10k
My nieghbor (Grizzy) loved the sound of his car until we met up. After he heard me drive away he went stright out and bought the PSE. Personally I love having the switch though - it is nice to have the option. Barry
Hey guys, What's the lowest cost you've paid for a PSE(with or without the switch)? Tnx
$1495 with electronics. I did the full installation b/c the dealer wanted around $1400 labor to install. The PSE switch cost around $30. I also did the rear spoiler and garage door opener mod, since I had to open the center console to install the PSE switch.
I have the receipt here:$3047.40 (by the dealer) but that included the four tube exhaust tips put on at same time. Switch not installed. List price, basically.
I heard the PSE and Then The Fabspeed - The Fabspeed Won me over -Plus for the $ I get a bit more power. Again amigos it;s all relative isn't it ?
Hey evo-333 How do you like the EVO intake??" any issues??
