Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

since there is alot of debate on muffler mods for the 996 that i have read since reading the threads on rennlist, i will confirm= these sound great! they are from darrin fister's shop in CA. and like he said on the phone=no drone, no cel, no farting sound, barley noticeable at light throttle, and there is no disappointment with the hammer down! <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i236.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid236.photobucket.com/albums/ff131/brian-1973/VIDEO_013.flv">

POST 3Original post

Sounds good on the video... I'd love to hear a driveby...

POST 4Original post

nice arent they - Fister does great work. He knows I always tell people that too ! My "home job" came out pretty good, but his are top notch! OK enough rev'n in the driveway.... get it out and lets get some "action" vids!

POST 5Original post

I love mine! Great sound, but not loud. A very cost effective mod. (CHEAP!!)

POST 6Original post

Love mine, too. I also modded the airbox....took out the "oil catcher" thingie and removed the box that sticks up (I know I am not explaining this well) the thing that the rubber clamps onto that goes from the airbox to the throttle body. Nice sound and I get a rumble at idle, too. BUT, when I get around to it, I am going to do the Fister Mk 1 mod, too. More! More! Hope is ain't too much....'03 C4S.....Seal gray, I don't know if this will work on another color car.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oil catcher? ? ? I have the schnell airbox tube that deletes the muffler hose connection, is this what you are talking about? I also removed the muffler chamber from the inside of my airbox, and inserted a aluminum plug in the hole. (guess it bothered me that the empty chamber was in ther taking up space and doing nothing!)

POST 8Original post

Oh, there is a plastic grill that holds down a pad on the left side of the air box. Mine had just a little bit of oil on it, I suppose, after 47K miles it is blowby. Anyway, I took it out, for a little bit more noise. Kind of like stuffing a sock into a guitar, but, you know, different. On the muffler chamber, I pulled that little box out, got a piece of PVC (1 1/2 in.) and siliconed it into the airbox. Seems to work...and a little bit more noise. I have a tip, so I think I have an extra hose connection back there.

Dennis, A driveby will sound pretty much stock. It's start-up and WOT where the thing COMES ALIVE...very fun...best sounds would be WOT in a tunnel..

POST 11Original post

Wow...I'm impressed how well that come through over the web. Sounds great! ....I need new exhaust.....

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

im gonna get the dvd cam and take a clip sitting (for even better quality). like said above; a cruising driveby will not really be any different. i could do a rol- on thought saturday.

I did the MK I bypass and my car sounded really raspy. Would love to hear a MK II in person to hear the difference.
